Since its launch in 2005, Atlanta based label Corinthian Recordings has always focused itself strictly on drum & bass releases.
But the face of the scene is changing, and having expanded his roster to over 50 artists, Corinthian boss Bill Hoffman, aka Thesis, has decided the time is right to venture in to unchartered dubstep territory.
Up-and-coming artist Surora has been given complete control over his half drum & bass, half dubstep debut LP, and was relishing the responsibility when we caught up with him.
"Thesis was the first guy to take a step back and say "hey this kid has talent," and that's always meant a lot to me," Surora recalled.
"Corinthian Records have offered me huge levels of support, and with my collection of finished tunes it just seemed like the time was right for an LP.
"I actually didn't get dubstep for a while, but I demonstrate my take on it within the album," he added, "to say it's emotional or soulful is an understatement."
Thesis decided to release two free promo tracks from the album entitled Bridge The Gap and We Stand Free, posting them on over 80 drum & bass message boards. He was confident Corinthian Records can reach new levels in light of the Surora LP.
"Surora has a great ear for engineering and his tunes are always well produced," he enthused, "he has turned into a more liquid / neuro producer, but his recent take on dubstep just adds depth to his talent. He was always sending me completed tunes, and I always loved them, so it seemed like the perfect time to let him loose on an LP.
"He does artwork and graphics too so I've given him complete control over that aspect, and he's done a great job on both the LP and the sample covers."
If You Only NU is a fusion of two genres, but manages to combine them in perfect harmony, and whether you're a drum & bass head or a dubstep fanatic, be sure to check it out, and keep an ear out for more from Corinthian Recordings in the near future.
