Gathering the talents of Marco Del Horno and DJ Swerve under the Riddim Commission banner is due to result in a mini-album in the new year. They have a new Example remix, and a showcase mix to show off as well. We spoke to Marco all about the project.
Hi Marco, how are you? Let us know more about Riddim Commission – how did you and Swerve come to work together, and what are the ideas around the new project?
As you know we first worked together on Ho Riddim in 2010. I produced an original track called Ho and needed a remix and Swerve had just done Street Fighter Riddim so we asked him to do one. He brought in P Money and the rest is history. As for Riddim Commission, we came up with the idea of forming a production/DJ partnership early this year off the back of an earlier collabo with Blacks and Lady Chann "Just Rewind".
Let us know about the mini-album you’ve got in the works.
We've been working on about 5 tracks since May. We've got tracks with Merky Ace and L Marshall, Stush, Cas and another massive collabo hopefully in the pipeline. Pretty much all 140bpm bass bangers. Very much aimed at the clubs/festivals.
The Example remix is amazing – how did that come around?
During the writing process for our EP project, Example reached out to Swerve for a remix of Close Enemies and we decided to do a Riddim Commission one. It's a great way to introduce our sound. He's a safe guy too. Really easy to work with.
If we’re not to call the mix ‘Trap House’ what would you prefer us to call it?
It's bass music really. We've got elements of grime, trap, house, dubstep and rave in our sound. We've deliberately not wanted to go out and do something that's just the in thing right now. We've taken elements of what we love and mixed them together.
Where are some places we can catch RC live?
We're both mad with our own touring schedules at the moment so the Riddim Commission sets will come in 2013. It's all about making the music as banging as possible so when we do decide to play out as 'Riddim Commission' the majority of the sets will be our records.
