The Real Playaz empire is hitting the road with their monthly appearance at Fabric on March 29th. On a lineup which includes Hype, Pascal, N-Type and more will be DJ Randall, who is headlining room 3 alongside Ray Keith, Jumpin Jack Frost and others. We chatted to Randall about the upcoming gig, his thoughts on Playaz and just what makes up a normal Randall day. He has also provided us with an exclusive Stepback Sessions mix which you can cop below.
What’s the typical day like for Randall?
Wake up get all my new beats together also I’m getting some music projects up and running. Currently re-launching my imprint Mac2’s website featuring various artists on the label, mixes, news on events and what's happening on the Mac2 label. Site launching in mid April 2013…fingers crossed lol
How have you seen your work and the music you play change over the years.
D&b is forever changing over the years just like the technology and the way we make it & how we promote it. There's so much good music out there old & new. Just need more than a hour’s set-time to express yourself for real.!
How do you keep the Randall vibe going?
Over 20 years of going up & down the motorways & flights all the over the globe doing a job I love playing the music I’m passionate about…simple! Your will have your good & bad days like everyone else but the main thing is when music hits your inbox and is something fresh you haven't heard before its always refreshing. You look forward to playing it to the crowd in the clubs. Still got the music bug… it’s in my dna, don’t think it will ever leave me.
Do you have plans for more releases this year?
A project that I started back in 2009 called Stepback Sessions. I’ve just released Vol: 4 of the series on Jan 28th 2013. Re-working some old skool classics with remixes from various artists in the d&b scene Madcap, Cable, Soul Intent & DJ Vapour. Also putting together the Mac2 album for summer 2013 with a selection of artist collaborations & I’m looking forward to getting that out there.
You’re headlining room 3 at the Playaz night at the end of March. What does the whole Playaz event thing mean to you?
Hype’s Playaz night is always a big night it’s one of the best d&b nights in London in one the best clubs. Always a pleasure to play there, a wicked vibe every time at Playaz events.
And how do you feel about the lineup on March 29th?
Well it’s the Easter special and Hype & Playaz always pull it out the bag so BIG line-ups in all rooms it's always the cream of the music scene. Not to be missed!
For people acquainted with the Randall experience, or those just arriving, what can people expect when they catch you playing?
Basically taking you on a musical journey. Pure beats, bass & party vibes in room 3 for sure!
