Dutch DJ and producer Fusion has been involved in underground electronic music since the early 90s. Most recently he has just launched his own label, Tempo Records, and is starting off with a release under the PRPLX alias, together with Deepflow. We were able to ask him about both the release and the label, and you can check out what he has to say, as well as checking out his sounds, and a mix, below.

Let us know a little about your career to this date, and what output you've had.
I've been DJing under the name Fusion for 20 years or so, started out buying loads of DJ mixtapes & vinyl in shops like Section5, Blackmarket, Unity and Vinyl Exchange.  Later on I worked for a Dutch d&b distributor and nowadays for Clone Distribution where I just set up my new label: Tempo Records.

What led up to the setting up of the label?
Basically to create an outlet for our own productions and to release quality d&b from other producers. Not quantity but quality first!

You have an album - Fabric of Space - coming out. Tell us a little about the  background to this particular release? What can we expect from the album?
It's been a long journey of around two years producing tracks and checking what works (and what doesn't). This led to around 25 tracks where we only selected around 10/12 for the album... We love the energy of the breakbeat and deep basslines, also we like Detroit techno and Chicago house. We both have a long history in breakbeat/jungle/d&b and we're keen fans of Metalheadz at Bluenote and Speed at Marsbar so I guess we're influenced by that particular sound but still with a modern touch.

You've taken the unusual step of releasing on vinyl in a package with mp3 download – what prompted that decision? What’s coming up on part 2?
It's a nice bonus for people who are buying vinyl, they can use it for their vinyl scratch or whatever other platform they use. I really don't care whether DJs play vinyl/ mp3 or CDs, at the end it's just a format. We haven't decided what's coming out on the second part. For instance the 'Slywalker' track which was our latest track we made that one month ago so it's still a very fresh track!
