Young Dutch producer Posij is in the enviable position of working with Division Recordings, the label of the legendary Noisia. We've managed to talk to him, to find out about his background and future plans. You can also check out the sounds, and grab the free download link, below.

Hi Posij, your new release seems to be blowing up on YouTube. Can you let us know a little about what you've been doing in your career up to now?
Until now I've been going to school, I’m in my last year and will be graduating this summer, my exam will be the process of making my album, so that’s really cool. But next to doing school stuff, I have been really busy learning how to finish songs, the 4 songs on my EP are the first ones that are actually finished.

How did the hook up with Noisia and Division Recordings come about?
Well, I was playing one of my first shows, like the third one or something, and Martijn from Noisia was there. When i was done DJing he asked me if I had a CD for him, I did, so I gave it to him. And that made me really really happy. I had also met the assistant of Noisia's manager, he was good friends with a long-time friend of mine and he was aware of the fact that I was making music and wanted to release something. They told me they listened to the CD I gave Martijn, and that it was the first time they listened to a whole demo CD, and they started brainstorming what they could do for me, which eventually became the fact that they wanted me to release an album. So they called me, and i was nervous for months and the first few times I met them I was really starstruck with sweaty armpits and stuff, but I'm cool now, maybe?

What inspires you when you are making tunes?
A lot of things inspire me. Recently I've been watching a lot of Fred Astaire stuff, so that's prolly what will inspire me now. I like the fact that in his time, you had to be able to do fucking eeeeverything, he could dance, sing, play piano, drums AND act. Nowadays you just have to put a kick and snare on top of a submerged farting dinosaur and you take over the world. So I try to go deeper than that kind of thing, because of Fred! Thanks Fred...

Your EP, 'Empty Lungs' is out now. Tell us more about this release.
It's 4 tracks I finished, and the first four tracks that I turned into songs. Most of my stuff is 30-40 seconds long, so this is new to me.

You've been noticed by a lot of big names. Is there anyone you'd like to work with in the future?
Oof, if I could choose anyone, i would love to work with Flying Lotus and do some crazy beat stuff with him, or maybe Amon Tobin and do some crazy sound design stuff with him, or maybe even a more commercial name like Knife Party or Zedd, just because I would love to take on the challenge of making a tune with them without pissing people off. Oh and Noisia of course! They are pretty OK producers...
