Physics

Please introduce yourself...
My Name is Glenn Grip, also known as Physics in the music world. I'm a drum & bass producer / DJ from Helsinki, Finland. I'm 27-years-old and started to DJ and produce around 10 years ago now. I have also promoted nights for a long time here in Helsinki.

Tell us more about the album you're releasing...

It's called 'Life In Cycles' and the tracks on the album have all been written in different moods. As we all know life is not always easy and things can change fast, but it all comes down to the fact that life goes around in cycles, you know what i mean? Some of the tracks on the album were written when I was really depressed and down, some when i felt really happy and i think you can really tell that. I feel the album really shares some of my feelings and thoughts.

What did you set out to achieve with it?

I just had to get some stuff out of my system really, a form of self expression really and I'm more than happy to share it with others. If my music can make one single person happy or to feel something about it, then I have achieved my goal.

How does working on albums compare with of singles?
This is really my first album so it's been an unique experience. Compared to working on singles it has been so much more difficult to be satisfied with the end result. I wanted it to be diverse, because I write a lot of different kind of styles within drum & bass. I didn't want it to be a certain style, the process of putting it together was hard because you are always very harsh on yourself as a producer. Now that it is finished I must say I am really happy with all tracks and I think it is a nice package of music. The hardest part was what to include on it and what to leave out...

Who have you collaborated with on it?
I did a track with Jayem from the L.A.O.S collective on it. It's called 'Street Thing' and it came about after I showed Jani some unfinished tracks I had laying on my hard drive. We started to work on one of them and this came out of it. I also did a track with Resound on the album. I've always worked well with Resound because we both have similar musical tastes, so it was pretty natural to have him feature on the album. The last collab track was 'Deep Down Inside' with C.A.B.L.E from Brazil. It was just a track I had to put on the album because I think it is a damn good track, but it had not found a home on any singles even though it had gotten strong DJ support from most big name DJs.

What's the next challenge for you?
I'm focusing really hard on my Midnight Sun Recordings label right now and I just want to keep on doing my thing really. I love drum and bass and music in general and can't really see me doing much else either so I guess that is a challenge, to keep it up!

Anything else you want to tell us about?
I just want to say a big thanks to each and everyone for the support along the way, it is really appreciated. Remember to express yourself and, of course, go and pick up a copy of the record!
