Drum and bass legend Photek has released details of his new full-length. Entitled KU:PALM, the album marks his first long-player of original material since 2000's Solaris and follows a string of recent releases that have re-announced his presence as a dancefloor force. Of these, Aviator, Sleepwalking (feat Linche) and This Love (feat Ray La Montagne) will all feature on the album, as well as a whole bunch of brand new tracks.
In the relatively short period of time that drum and bass has existed, there have been very few albums within the genre that have been considered classics outside of the scene. While that is perhaps not indicative of anything other than the ignorance of large swathes of the mainstream press (not Kmag though!), the ones that make waves outside of the world of d'n'b do tend to be particularly special. The three most obvious examples are: Timeless by Goldie; New Forms by Roni Size & Reprazent; Modus Operandi by Photek.
The release of Modus Operandi heralded to the wider musical community something that jungle fans had known for a while: Photek was unlike any other musician on the planet. A peerless blend of claustrophobic tones and fiercely programmed breaks, it is still one of the most original works to have come from the scene and has influenced a whole stream of producers ever since. If you don't know, get to.
The announcement of the first new Photek album in years should be enough to get any discerning bass music fan excited and, with the man himself speculating that this could be his "favourite album to date", the chances of this being another classic release are pretty high. It's out on 23rd October and we suggest you buy it. Tracklist below.
