Nymfo

The Dutch drum and bass don on his forthcoming releases, dream collaborations and Quiff's haircut...

Tell us more about 'Space Tourist' / 'Magnetic Field' and 'Robocall' / 'Social Isolation', your forthcoming releases on CIA and 31 Records respectively...
Both releases are typical Nymfo rollers with rolling beats and bouncy b-lines. The first six months of this year I worked hard in the studio on my solo beats and these two releases are some of the results. I've followed both labels since day one, so I'm very happy that they've signed some of my tracks.

You release quite a lot of tracks on Total Science's labels, why is this and what's it like working with Paul & Quiff?
Total Science are my heroes, so I always send my stuff to them. Because their sound influenced me a lot is the reason they're into my beats I think. I like to work with them because they are very professional. You also know that the tunes will come out pretty quickly and I'm a big fan of Quiff's haircut.

Your collaboration with Bulletproof + Teknik from New Zealand, 'Three Of A Kind', was released in September, how did that link-up come about?
I was touring in Australia and New Zealand November last year and I stayed at their place for a few days. I'm a big fan of lots of producers from New Zealand and Jay and Nick are two of them. Because they both had separate studios in the house they were living in the collab finished pretty fast. After two days of stinking in their house and drinking all their beer this tune was done.

Who else have you collaborated with recently?

During the same Australia / New Zealand tour I did a tune with Cern. A few labels are interested in this tune, but it's still unsigned (HINT!). I'm going to start a tune with Lenzman next week. S.P.Y. and I are going to make some music when he is in Holland and when I was in London a few weeks ago Icicle and I started a beat.

Is there anyone you haven't collaborated with yet that you'd like to?

Boymerang, Jonny L and Danny Elfman!

What else are you working on at the moment?
I moved to Amsterdam last month and I just set up my studio at my new place and started some beats this week. Some labels I really like are interested in my stuff, so I'm going to work on some music for them. I hope I can give you more info soon about some new releases.

What's the next challenge for you?
To finish a few solo 12"s for a few labels, play a lot worldwide and lose some weight because I'm getting fat.

What producers are you feeling at the moment?
Spectrasoul, Jubei, Icicle, Proxima, Alix Perez, S.P.Y. I listen to that Nosaj Thing album every day, I like the Fever Ray album a lot and the new Muse album is brilliant. Ricardo Villalobos is my hero DJ wise and I play Chopin on the piano.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
I like Dr Pepper and frikandellen with mayonnaise.
