Not Safe For Work is a new multi-genre music label brought to you by the people behind drum & bass imprints Intrinsic and Westbay. We spoke to them to find out what to expect...

Please introduce yourself...

Hello, I'm Jeryl. Some of you may remember me from such endeavours as Dogs On Acid, ATM Magazine and some of my earlier labels (Intrinsic and Westbay for instance).

I now own and run Infectious PR. Infectious is a 'bass music' promotion company which works with people like Pendulum, Chase & Status, Noisia, J Majik & Wickaman, High Rankin, Excision & Datsik and so on. We also work with some great artists and record labels in a management capacity.

I live in Bristol and I enjoy long walks. WLTM someone with GSOH for fun, friendship and maybe more.

Why have you set the label up?

Myself and long term friend and collaborator Dan Wilberforce set up Not Safe For Work because we wanted a refreshing change from anything we'd done before.

We originally set up Intrinsic together in 2005 and it was predominantly a liquid drum & bass label but our tastes have morphed and changed over the years and Not Safe For Work sets out our current musical ethos; loud and kinda trashy with tonnes of bass, incorporating anything between 124-175bpm.

Who is involved with running it?

Dan and I run it together. A&R decisions are made together, Dan does the accounts and admin side of things while I do the promotion through Infectious PR.

What's the ethos behind the label?

We'd like to think of it as music for the Annie Mac generation. We love dubstep, electro, drum & bass, anything that gets people pulling a face and shotting gun fingers on the dancefloor - particularly if they're a white middle-class student from Hampshire.

Not Safe For Work is not big or clever, so please don't make the mistake of thinking it's supposed to be. It's about having fun.

Tell us more about your first release...

We were lucky enough to come across an artist called 501 whose music we absolutely loved. It was a very organic process, we'd been thinking about a new project for a while and then an email stuffed full of wicked tunes dropped in our lap. As it turns out 501 is someone we'd worked with before who was using a new alias, so we already had a great relationship with him and we went full steam ahead and signed up a four-track EP.

Included in the EP is the amazing Echo In My Head which we've just licensed to a forthcoming Scratch Perverts compilation on Ministry of Sound and Dub You, a track which has been around for quite a while and was previously scheduled for release on Chase & Status' MTA Records (thanks for letting us pinch it, Will & Saul, we owe you a pint!)

Got any other releases in the pipeline you can tell us about?

The second release will be from Cutline which is actually me and Dan. At present it's looking like a two track dubstep single with remixes from some big names from the D&B and breaks world, but the remixes aren't finished and approved so we'll hang out on that info.

Also we're working on a remix package for the 501 EP, we've already approved a High Rankin remix of Somewhere In Time and a Cutline remix of Echo In My Head and Excision is working on a remix of Dub You right now.

Further singles including some fidget house and a frankly bizarre "Not Safe For Work" themed single from one of dance music's most twisted minds are also on the cards.

Anything else you want to tell us about?

I could go on for weeks. Most importantly though I think anyone who likes the sound of NSFW would also like what Dan and I are doing with Cutline: A multi-genre approach with all forms of bass music. You can check out our debut single for Never Say Die (ironically titled Die For You), our remix of The Qemists' next single Renegade and J Majik & Wickaman's Save You on our Myspace page.
