Syncopix

Syncopix is releasing a compilation called 'Urban Symphonies' on his Syncopix Records imprint. This is the first time that any other artists have appeared on his drum & bass label, we spoke to him to find out more...

What is 'Urban Symphonies' all about?
It's a label compilation with a bunch of exclusive and non-exclusive drum & bass material. I've always wanted to make an album that features new talent as well as established producers.

How did you go about choosing the artists that appear on the album?
When I chose the tracks I had one thing in mind, the title 'Urban Symphonies'. The main criteria was to find some sweet liquid funk music that would describe that sound. Something new and exclusive.

So people started sending me their music or, when I found some nice unsigned tracks on MySpace, I asked for it. Sometimes it's as simple as that. People have helped me so I thought I can help new artists get their sound out there. I made fair deals and hope everyone is happy with the final compilation.

Tell us more about the background of some of the other artists on the album...
There's Paul B from Moscow, an extremely talented music producer and long time drum & bass artist. I have signed 'Have No Fear' for a vinyl release and will sign more stuff in the near future.

Then we have the mighty Redeyes, whose music I've been following since The Funktastics gave me a CD with his unsigned music in 2005 when I was playing in Paris. Everyone I've met from the Toulouse scene since has made damn funky and soulful music. There's huge potential in French music as we should know. Respect to Mr. Salvi for the lost sound of 'Ubiquity'.

The latest signing has been made through MySpace. I got in touch with Steve 'Dynamic', who had just signed his music to Good Looking at the same time I did. I checked his site and found this beauty of a tune and was very happy when talking to this down to earth guy.

Martin aka Bionic1 - I love the way he makes his tunes. He's found his trademark sound and the way he punches is just great. His tracks always work on the floor and it's fast and furious. I signed two of his tracks. 'Wrecking Crew' is out on vinyl now and 'Sound Is Everything' is on the album and is out next month on a split label collaboration with Blu Saphire called SyncSaphire Records.

Rogue Soul is my second alias for a production collab with the Mojo Club. I did an album for them two years ago, collaborating with MC Kemo and other fine artists. This one features Ruben Scheffler and is exclusive to 'Urban Symphonies'.

Alexus' track got signed on the fly. During a conversation about a gig in Poland I listened to his music and thought this would fit perfectly on the album. I know he's very happy now and I'm glad to have him on board.

What else do you have coming out soon?
I'm currently working on my new Syncopix album and sending out files for remixes. Spearhead Recordings are releasing a 12" soon and other signings are in the pipeline...
