The saying "when one door closes, another one opens" couldn't be more true for Paul Reset right now as he's closing his Nerve imprint and launching a new label called Phuturelabs. We spoke to him to find out why...
Why are you closing Nerve?
The time just felt right to be honest - we've been going for nearly nine years now - had 63 releases (between Nerve and Nerve Breaks) and I feel it's come to a natural close. To finish up though we've got three cracking releases - from Y2D, Saburuko & Morphy and Ronin.
We've been through the whole vinyl thing, the whole digital thing and then we finally moved onto all releases being free - we've put out a lot of good music and I think we can be proud of our output. I personally want to move onto new things and change is good!
What have been the highlights over the years?
There's too many mention! From holding our very first vinyl release in 2001 (with its big full artwork, full colour sleeve - that never happened again!), to the buzz I'd always get when I managed to snap up a tune I'd been chasing for a while, it's been brilliant and I can't thank all the artists enough for letting us releasing their brilliant music.
Thanks also to everyone who's been so enthusiastic about the label over the years - and supported us in any way - even just by listening to the music.
Tell us more about your new label Phuturelabs and what we can expect on it...
Phuturelabs is a project I've been working on with a few friends - first and foremost we're an electronic music blog - we cover all sorts of top quality music and do the odd interview and comp.
Over the past couple of months we've started a radio show and also made plans to start playing out under the Phuturelabs name - we'll also be starting a label through the site which will retain the ethics of the site - just being about good quality electronic music - regardless of any genre stereotypes or pigeonholes.
What will be the first release?
The first release is from Ronin - I've released some of his material already on Nerve Breaks so the transition is logical. We'll be releasing his new album around August / September time with a small launch party planned in Glasgow.
After that we've got some amazing music lined up but none of it's 100% tied down as yet. We'll be focusing a lot on Scottish artists - but we've also got material lined up from producers around the world.
