Nero recently signed exclusively to MTA, Chase & Status' new imprint. We spoke to them to find out why and what we can expect on their debut album...
Please introduce yourself...
We are Dan and Joe aka Nero. We make drum and bass, dubstep and house music and we're based in London.
Quite a few labels must have been interested in signing you, why have you signed exclusively with MTA?
We had some offers on the table but we were most interested with MTA and what Will and Saul (Chase and Status) have planned for the label. They have a lot of influence now in both underground and mainstream circles. We also didn't want to be on a label that was associated more with dnb than dubstep or vice versa. MTA is going to be a label focused on good music rather then particular genres.
When can we expect your first 12" on MTA?
We're working on the first single right now. We've been dropping one of the tunes from it for a while now in our sets and it's been really going off. Hopefully you'll be hearing it on a system near you very soon.
I hear you're working on an album, how far along with it are you and what can we expect?
We're excited about it, we haven't set ourselves a completion deadline yet but all is going very well. The main thing we are focusing on with the album is it being a coherent piece of work where every tune flows into the next. We are also working closely with Alana who has done vocals on a few tunes for us in the past, she sang on 'This Way' among others.
Any collaborations planned for it?
We have some exciting collaborations planned but can't go into detail about that just at the moment!
What else are you currently working on in the studio?
We are very much focussed on the album and getting the first single done right now, but we're working on a couple of remixes for Calvin Harris and MJ Cole as well.
Done any interesting remixes recently?
We recently finished a remix of the new Drake track Forever. We're currently finalizing our remix of MJ Cole's Sincere and Calvin Harris' You Used To Hold Me, and then we're going to shut up shop on the remix work for a while.
2009 has been a big year for you, what have been the highlights?
I think supporting Deadmau5, Chase & Status and Zane Lowe on their UK tours this October was a big highlight for us.
Which producers should we be looking out for in 2010?
Bar9 and Chasing Shadows are making big moves in the dubstep scene at the moment and will be doing great things next year. Also loving Shockone's output at the moment.
