Why have you decided to start promoting Soul In Motion?
We shortlisted hundreds of names, we wanted something that worked at this venue and which would work on social networks and represent many different styles of dnb. We ended up with the title of the classic Krust track "Soul In Motion" which is a personal favourite of ours and easily one of the best dnb tracks written.
We called Krust and ran some names past him and he liked it for a club night name, which is a little biased but that was all we needed to move ahead with the night.
Why are you doing the night with Bailey?
Bailey and I have history together from when I promoted nights in New Zealand and Australia over ten years ago, before I moved to the UK. I have always appreciated his selection and love for dnb and it seemed like we both had the same vision for a weekly dnb night back in Soho. We just needed the venue and when Basement opened it was perfect for what we had in mind.
What made you choose Basement?
Basement is a new venue under the Edition hotel which opened September of last year on 10 Berners Street just off Oxford Street. The music policy and design and sound of the club fit perfectly with the music and environment we wanted to create with Soul in motion.
They have a host of other nights which run regularly at the venue but none that are strictly dnb/jungle. We think it's a real exciting venue and London is extremely spoilt to have the opportunity to hear music in this environment.
Your launch night is on March 5th, tell us more about what you have in store...
The music policy is just good music, we wanted to create a place where people can draw for new music without having the pressure or boundaries of a weekend night. Even though the night is called Soul In Motion this is not a strictly liquid night, expect heavy beats and conceptual music and everything else in between.
The opening night will consist of me and Bailey and guests DLR and Klute. All of us will play one hour each. It opens at nine and goes until one. I will be warming up from nine, so get in early to avoid disappointment.
How regular will these events be?
At first they will be the first Wednesday of every month and we'll see how that goes on. Maybe it will be bi-weekly. It's a free night, but it's limited guest list only and you must email in your names before the event or you can't enter, so no street walk ins. But it's open to anybody who is willing to email. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Where else can people see you play in the near future?
On March 7th you can catch me in Paris, March 15th in Antwerp and on March 28th at Spearhead at Plan B, London.
Got any releases / remixes in the pipeline we should look out for?
February 24th - Ambush, Trips & Plant Life featuring HLZ & Kabuki will be out on Warehouse Music comp on Chronic Records mixed by Bailey.
In March I have a 12" on Spearhead, a collab with DLR, HLZ & Nymfo on Dispatch and two remixes of Major Look and Jakwob.
In April there will be a new Zoltar EP and a Philly Blunt EP.
