Felon

Mode One Records is a new label set up by London based producer Matt Stevens. Matt goes by the names Felon, Fluid and Jacque Le Trak whilst unleashing beats in drum & bass, dubstep, electro, minimal and house, and his label is similarly flexible.

We caught up with the versatile 26-year-old and he told us of his motives behind Mode One Records.

"I wanted to start a label showcasing a myriad of styles of music without the usual constraints of keeping within a genre," he said.

"The first single will be a drum & bass release entitled Aurora / Lighten The Load under my Felon guise, followed by a dubstep offering under the alias Fluid, with an array of different music following it up.

"For example, I've got a couple of psychedelic, ambient tracks to come, so we really are going to explore every avenue," he added.

It's not just forthcoming releases on Mode One that showcase this versatility, Matt also has some interesting live experiments lined up.

"I'd like to take the label and explore something along the lines of audience participation, as it's something I've experimented with in the past and something I'm keen to revisit.

"With a wide selection of talented musicians and producers to choose from, this could prove to be a really exciting path to explore."

With an abundance of forthcoming releases on DSCI4, Broken Audio and Shark VIP and a genre-hopping label about to take off, Matt's forward thinking has left him with plenty in the pipeline. Expect to hear a lot more from this multi-talented producer over the next few months.
