Marcus Intalex

Marcus Intalex has been hard at work in the studio recently working on an album, 21. Known for his work with ST Files and Calibre this is his first solo album and he hopes to have it out before the end of 2010. We spoke to Marcus recently to find out more about it...

Why did you decide to make the new album solo?
I have been making music solo for at least six or seven years now and I don't think there has ever been a time when I have enjoyed doing it as much as I am doing right now.

I have said previously that if I am not enjoying the studio I just don't go in there. I don't force it, I'd rather wait until I feel creative. So I think that's the main reason why I have never previously felt up to doing an album until now.

Gotta also say that switching from Logic to Ableton Live has been a revelation for me and is probably the main reason why I am enjoying producing so much right now.

What's the thought process behind the title 21?

This is the 21st year I've been in the business. I first started DJing in clubs in 1989 when I was 18. It's quite a milestone so I figured it would make an apt title and talking point.

Can we expect anything different on it?
So far it's about 70 percent dnb including an attempt at a dnb Radiohead cover version, which may or may not make the finished LP. I've done a few things at 130/140 and a couple of house tempo things. As yet though I haven't decided on the finished tracklist and I am still making music for it. I am  giving myself until the end of August before I call it a day. So far I've got about 35 tunes to choose from.

Who have you collaborated with on it?

I've done beats with Calibre, S.P.Y., Zed Bias, DRS, Lynx, Fierce and I'm trying to lock down a combo with dBridge. They're all people I know well so it's been a stress free process.

Got any album tracks online we can listen to?

Not officially, it seems one or two made a couple of DJ mixes but I'm waiting 'til it's totally wrapped before I start the promotional bandwagon. Keep ya eyes and ears on my blog for snippets and the latest info.

What else are you working on at the moment?

Just writing music and having fun. Got interest from Swamp81 and Brownswood for some of the non-dnb stuff and I really wanna have some of the house and techno stuff released at some point in the near future.

Got any other Soul:R releases you can tell us about?

Yeah, the Hobzee and Zyon Base LP is complete and should be the next release, we're just trying to get a couple of remixes done to complete the project. Next year at some point there will be a S.P.Y. LP and DRS is also doing an LP.

Anything else you want to tell us about?

There's still plenty left in the tank; the ideas are flowing but I'm a one-thing-at-a-time kinda guy, especially at my age...
