Lynx has been fairly quiet since the release of his The Raw Truth album last year as he's been busy in the studio stockpiling tunes for his new label, Detail Recordings.
Lynx is known for his love of collaborating and he plans to use Detail to work with many of his favourite vocalists and producers as well as exploring new methods involving audience participation.
"The label is pretty much for my music and collaborations with other artists," says Lynx, "and a big part of the label's ethos is what like to think of as a Chinese whispers approach to music.
"I'll upload the parts, they won't be completely separate, but it will be a beat, a bass, a vocal and some sound effects. People will be able to download it, and the idea is that people don't finish the song off, they just add one or two sounds to the track, resend back the parts that they've done and then I'll get them in the song and reupload the parts again. In that time I'll have other sounds back from other producers, so it's an ongoing experiment where a track can evolve and grow as it goes along."
Lynx plans to upload the first track a couple of weeks before the release of Detail 001, Keep it Low featuring Kemo, on May 23rd. The track in question is called Burn and also features Kemo on vocals.
"The intro to Burn is kind of Prodigy-esque I guess, it's quite intense and the drop is very minimal / tribal and could go anywhere, that's the beauty, it's not complete at all. The idea is also to really push other artists, so Burn has a 6/8 time signature and I'm hoping, and this is meant in the most positive way, to put off the producers who aren't ready to do this kind of thing."
The idea is to do these type of tracks every two or three releases and Lynx also has ideas for other ways this new approach to collaborating could work.
"Maybe I'll upload the verse for a couple of weeks and people can add to it, then take it down and upload the chorus and other people add to that," he explains. "So people who have added to the chorus might have never heard the verse and hopefully you end up with this real diverse sound."
You'll be able to get more details on the new Detail Recordings website and their SoundCloud page in a few weeks time and look out for our full interview with Lynx with an exclusive guest mix in mid May.
