French drum & bass DJ / producer Lutin (pictured) has signed to DJ Vapour's 36Hertz record label. Lutin's debut release, entitled Pimp My is due out in late April, and showcases the talent that initially attracted Vapour's attention.
"Lutin started sending me tracks in November last year," Vapour recalled, "I heard something I liked in his style, and it fitted in perfectly with the 36Hertz sound. So I put together a proposal for him to read, he liked the idea, we drew up the contracts and I flew over to Toulouse in January to seal the deal.
"Since then, I've had problems trying to work out what to release, as every track he sends me is more than good enough for me to put out there," he laughed.
It's not just the emergence of Lutin's work that's exciting the team at 36Hertz, as Vapour went on to explain.
"I've also been working on my debut LP," he said, "It'll be about 20 tracks, released on a combination of vinyl, digital and free download, all released on the same day.
"I'm working on some more jazz tracks, like the Mr.Mingus release of a few years back, some deeper tunes, and some more traditional Vapour dance floor beats."
The team behind 36Hertz have had a busy start to 2010 outside of the studio too, with their new night Stink, taking off at Shoreditch's Bar 54.
"Stink is our way of getting some variety back in to London," Vapour said excitedly. "We want to push some newer names in with more established artists, the first Friday of every month.
"The first night was a great success for us, we covered all angles of drum & bass in one night and I didn't hear the same record played twice, which was a breath of fresh air."
The line-up at each event includes Vapour, Serum, Bladerunner, Chef and MC Fozz, as well as one established name, one guest MC, and one up and coming artist each month.
