Krust of Full Cycle and Reprazent fame is finally ready to launch his Rebel Instinct label and, as you'd expect from Krust, it's a bit different. Krust tells us what we can expect...
You're about to launch your new Rebel Instinct imprint, tell us more about it as it sounds like more than just a record label...
Rebel Instinct is a creative hub. It's an outlet for all my own creative projects as well as being somewhere to nurture new talent. The idea is for people to come and develop their ideas and themselves with liked mind people. At its heart it is an entertainment company with social implication. We're interested in a creating a new business model.
What have you got lined up release wise for the next few months?
Some brand new music from me. The Rules will have something coming very soon. George Kurtz will be something a little different for the end of the year and we also have a new artist called Mark Day with an EP releasing early next year. I'm really excited about my book called Look Before You Leap that will be released through Rebel Instinct next year. Oh and lots of new merchandise. Plus opportunities for people to get involved every step of the way.
Tell us more about the promotional videos you'll be streaming across the Rebel Instinct social network...
It's an introduction to the company. I will be talking about what Rebel Instinct is and aims to achieve. I'm interested in the way things are going and all the new ways we can use technology - using what we have to communicate with the audience. Right now we have so many tools and options that are really new and different. And these things fit in with what the company is about.
You're working closely with Pledge Music, tell us more about the Pledge concept, why you're doing this and what fans can expect if they sign up...
Pledge is great way for fans to get involved in the artists projects from day one. We work together to make something happen which is a bit different from how it used to be. Today we have the opportunity to engage with the audience. And make them a part of what we are doing from the very start.
For all the people that have followed my work over the years, Pledge is a place to get exclusive, limited edition back catalogue, original merchandise, artwork and very special one-offs from my own collection. There is something for everyone, plus exclusive footage and listens to my new material. It's got so much going on.
Tell us more about the Warhead mash-up competition you're doing at the moment...
My thing right now is creativity. What can people do with what they have? Warhead Mashup is something to get people in the right mind state for what's coming next – and it's amazing to hear what people come up with! Download the track below and upload your mash-up to the Rebel Instinct SoundCloud dropbox.
Warhead - Original Mix by Rebel Instinct
Next up is some stems from my last album Hidden Knowledge. People can create their own work and we'll get them out on Rebel Instinct. We also want to create photo albums, artwork and design based on everyone's photos, music, artwork and memories of Full Cycle. Create something together – online.
What's happening with your new band The Rules at the moment?
The project is almost done, we're just making the finishing touches to the last couple of tracks. What we are trying to do is something different so it takes quite a bit of time to make that happen. The music is very different for me and I'm happy with what we have created so far. We will be giving away a free track soon so people can here what we have been doing.
And what about your merchandise company Rue?
Rue is fine. Everything is going well. It's more of the design side of things so it's working on the logos for The Rules, Rebel Instinct and ILS - as well as all the merchandise. We have a few new artists on board now. So that side of things is growing slowly.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
We are creating a culture for creatives, so it's going to take a while to get right. Now is a good time to let people hear and see what's going on - so we are releasing some projects in order to do that. I feel like I'm doing something new and that feels exciting.
I'm working with a group of forward thinking people. We are experimenting with a new business model. A fresh approach to releasing projects. These are exciting times. It's like the wild, wild west out there. Lots of people trying lots of different things. It can only be a good thing.
