The third Kerb Clothing mix competition is upon us, and the focus of the competition has changed just slightly. After focusing entirely on drum & bass to start off with, the company are opening things up, and for this time around, all styles of music will be considered. Kerb want to maintain the d&b element, but include contributions form other genres.
Kerb have teamed up with Zero T and Footprints Music this time around, and we spoke to Paul from the company, who provides you will full details of the competition and how to get your sounds heard. Read on...
Hi Paul. Give us a little background into Kerb Clothing and how you’ve hooked up with Footprints.
Kerb Clothing is an online streetwear store. We have started small building each season and are now stockists to some of the biggest streetwear brands around including LRG, The Hundreds, Crooks and Castles, WeSC and more. The Kerb Clothing’s mix competition is in its third season now. We focused purely on drum & bass in previous competition, this time we wanted to vary it up to see what people produced and also to open it up to other DJs. Keeping the d&b element and also including other genres we could think of no one better than the Footprints boss Zero T.
Tell us about the competition you’ve recently launched.
It has built massively really. The first competitions we just set up to see how it went and see if people would be up for getting involved. We had a brilliant reaction, not only did we get mixes from all over the world but the standard of music and mixing was amazing. After that we knew the judging had to be as high quality as the mixes that where entered. That’s when we drafted in the help from Dispatch boss Ant TC1 and Playaz knew addition Shimah.
What are the prizes you’ve got up for grabs?
We have grown with the brands we stock this season and brought on brands like The Hundreds, Crooks and Castles, Analog, Ichiban and THTC. As the selection of clothing has grown we increased the prize. This season the prize up for grabs is £200 worth of clothing and the forthcoming ‘ZERO T presents FOOTPRINTS Volume 1’ LP plus a copy of the Octane and DLR 'Method in the Madness' album as well, and all to get to the winner before Christmas.
You’ve been running the mix competitions for a while. How did the idea come about?
When it came to running competition this was really the only option for us. Massively into d&b and have been for over ten years now it was the obvious choice.
You’ve made a few changes to this season’s contest, so fill us in on those. What can people put in their mixes this time around?
Last season’s d&b competition we had a really good response and some really high quality mixes. To open it up and to push people capability we thought it would be a great idea to allow other genres.
How can people enter? What else should they know before dropping their mix?
Really simple to enter: just go to our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KerbClothing click LIKE and upload your link to you mix and add your email address.
As always we have put a MINIMUM length to the mix of 30 min so anything over that is fine.
Finally, who’s judging the entrants?
Judging the entrants this time will be the Kerb Clothing Team, Zero T (Footprints), Shimah (Playaz) and Ant TC1 (Dispatch).
