Voodoo Black might be a new name on the bass music circuit, but label owner Bison is certainly well used to releasing firing music. He talked to us about his background, the new label, and an exciting project with friends Stateside.

Bison - tell us a little about your background and past releases.

I've been in the dubstep scene about 3 years now releasing as Bison, & I was in the drum & bass scene as a different alias for about 8 years before that playing alongside all the big name DJs & MCs. I make dubstep, drum & bass & glitch-hop. My first release of dubstep was called Sicknote on Basher’s imprint Proximity Recordings, & since then I've been signed to, & releasing on Section 8 Recordings, with my last single Quest reaching number 12 in the Beatport glitch-hop chart.

What brought you to the stage of starting the new label?

Well I've been tempted to run another label for a while having previously co-run a drum & bass label with Intraspekt a few years ago now, and I thought it would be a good chance to help push new unheard material & artists into the bass music scene.

Is there a feeling, or a philosophy behind Voodoo Black?

The outlook behind Voodoo Black is to release the freshest bass music out there, dark, hard & sinister, yet full on banging, music which can destroy the dancefloor when it’s pumped through the speakers!

What should people expect from the first release?

The first release is from myself entitled Deception, beautiful harmonies & a luscious harp build the intro before the drop lands like a hydrogen bomb! Hard, dark & dirty, this one is ready to blow!

Lullaby Of The Lonely, the intro on this track literally lulls you into a false sense of security with an emotional piano & epic build before the danger chimes sound...then the bass hits you like a hammer to the head! If you like your basslines large then this is for you!

You're working with a label in the States - tell us about that.

Voodoo Black is working closely with US label Section 8 Recordings, who I'm also signed to. We are looking to combine our resources, artists & connections to create a whole new sound force as well as promoting one another's releases. Some big things are in the pipeline between us!
