Tom 'Peverelist' Ford's ever-impressive and innovative Punch Drunk label has played a vital role in pushing the sounds of Bristol into the wider sphere, nurturing and promoting local talent. As the manifesto on their myspace states, "Punch Drunk Records is an independent label aiming to support the burgeoning Bristol scene."

The label has seen releases from some of the biggest names in the scene, including RSD, Pinch and Peverelist himself, as well as introducing new producers to the fold with debut releases from Gemmy and Guido.

The relatively unknown Guido's debut 12" for the label (Orchestral Lab / The Way You Make Me Feel) immediately started to turn some heads with his unique style of emotive and melodic dubstep that resides somewhere between the rawness of grime and the melodic sincerity of R'n'B.

Comparisons were immediately made to fellow Bristol locals and friends Joker and Gemmy. However, while there are undoubtedly a number of similarities in terms of their crisp, punchy drums and vibrant, synth heavy sound, Guido occupies his own ground entirely, taking the most heavily melodic and moving approach.

Now with release number two, Guido is set to cement his position as one of the most exciting up and coming producers in the scene at the moment.

On the A-side, Guido serves up a slice of futuristic R'n'B for the bass heads with Beautiful Complication. It combines crisp hip hop drums and shuffling percussion with thick swathes of synthesised strings and raw bassweight to mesmerising effect, and is lent the genuinely affecting vocals of Aarya.

On the flip, Chakra edges into garage territory with pitched up vocal samples, arpeggiated synths and clever piano flourishes balancing against syncopated snare hits and a deep, longing bassline, effortlessly managing to sound both classic and forward-thinking.

This is an essential purchase, and marks Guido as one to watch for 2010.
