Dreazz, the man behind atmospheric Dutch imprint Fokuz Recordings, reveals the Secrets Of Saturn...
Tell us more about your new Secrets Of Saturn compilation...
After the first three editions of our ... Of The Deep series, we wanted a new concept that would blend well-known, respected artists along with brand new talent, but also blend the vinyl releases with the digital-only releases.
The outcome is a project that contains two vinyl samplers, two digital samplers, a four-piece LP and a double CD with 26 tracks from the likes of Bulletproof, Noisia, Fourward, Mutt, Quadrant, Bcee, CLS & Wax, alongside up-and-coming producers such as Well Being, Mad Men & Poets, Brother and many more.
What's the thinking behind the name?
Basically it revolves around the secrets / undiscovered theme. On one side you can see that the artist name is solid but guys like Bulletproof, Quadrant, & Fourward are more known for doing hard dancefloor tunes and this album reveals their secrets and shows that they can also make sensitive tunes. The second secret is the discovery of new talent like Well Being and Mad Men & Poets who both make absolutely fabulous tunes. Saturn is just part of the name that makes it sound good I guess!
How did you go about choosing the artists that appear on the album?
We have tried to be upfront with new guys, to be different, but also tried to approach the atmospheric sound from a dancefloor point of view. At the same time we also wanted to deliver some musical beauties, this is where Naibu, Brother and Quadrant step in. The final result of this project had to be a double CD that could easily be listened to anywhere at any time, while having a fair chunk of dancefloor tunes on the release.
Can we expect anything different on it?
I think you should just check it out, in my opinion everything is different. You have halfsteppers, dubby tunes, deep string stuff, highly soulful Mutt tunes and a few vocal tunes.
What else do you have coming out soon?
Fokuz has so much stuff coming out its hard to mention it all! The main thing is the follow-up to Secrets of Saturn. It's a sort of mini digital-only album. It's called Mysteries of Mars: Discoveries Beyond Saturn. These are some brand new discoveries and they're all part of this complete pack. They will be digital-only so not available on vinyl or CD.
The second project we're really looking forward to is our next CD album from Mad Men & Poets called Tales From The North. It will be a 12" with two tracks, including a remix from Naibu, and a CD album with about 25 tracks. One CD includes all unreleased tunes, while the second CD features all the best tunes that have already been released on various labels. All you music lovers should check this album out. Mad Men & Poets may not be the most well known producers out there but their music is just mind-blowing.
Beside these two projects we have a bunch of releases coming from Hobzee & Zyonbase, Eros & Paul G, Hydro & Spinline, Kubiks & Lomax, and the new flavour of the month, Command Strange..
What's the next challenge for you?
I just want to keep on releasing fine music, from both well-known and new guys. I feel proud when I see young producers we gave a chance growing up in this musical industry. I guess the biggest challenge is just to stay fresh.
