After the massive 'Black Candles' on Big Bad and Heavy Part Three, DJ Chap has fast become a staple part of the Liquid V label. His recent Inna Streets EP further cemented his talent and knack for producing quality music. As Liquid V is one of the hottest imprints about at the moment, we naturally wanted to get in there with Chap. Read on.
Hi Chap, hope you are well. Please let you know about your musical career to date.
Hello, I am very well, thank you! Well, I started my career in 2006 and have been developing. I’ve played on great parties here in Brazil, nights like "Liquid", "Movement" (with DJ Andy & Fernanda Porto), "Marky & Friends" (with DJ Marky) and many others. Outside Brazil, I played the party Herbal Sessions in Valparaiso / Chile. On production, I was always interested, and when I started playing, also started to produce some beats with the help of some friends. I am grateful for all of this.
Tell us about some of the other labels you’ve produced on, and how you came to hook up with the V crew.
My first releases came out on labels like All Street Recordings (Simplification - Brazil), Digital Blus (Jay Rome - Austria), Vibrations Records (ATP - Australia), Tupy (XRS - Brazil). In the year 2012 I realized a dream, with releases on Innerground Records (DJ Marky) and V Recordings (Bryan Gee). Some releases yet to come on SP Breakz & Luv Disaster Records (São Paulo - Brazil).
For those who might not be aware, tell us about the drum & bass scene in Sao Paulo.
The scene in Sao Paulo is very stable. Many parties, new and traditional clubs are opening their doors, DJ Marky is in LabClub with the party "Marky & Friends", DJ Andy with his party "Flavour" every Thursday at the newest club in São Paulo: Mono Club . Traditional nights also continue making a difference, as "Ziriguidrum", "Forbass", "Tendence", "Monsters Of Drum & Bass", "Liquid", and many others. Producers are also to be congratulated, I would cite the name of them all, but I prefer not to run the risk of forgetting someone's name haha.
You have recently released the Inna Streets EP. How do you feel about the EP now that it is finished and released?
I feel very happy and relieved, because it is a lot of pressure so you can do a good job. In "Inna Streets EP" I had help from many people, producers like Bungle, CABLE & Urbandawn have extensive experience in studio and helped me a lot with the mixdowns, I'm happy to get their help and several others. Really the union makes a difference. I feel happy with the positive comments and the support I got with this EP, figures such as Break, Crissy Criss, JJ Frost, DJ Marky played the tracks of EP on the festivals, radio and podcasts. I have no words to describe, just thank everyone and especially thank Bryan Gee for the support.
How did you go about pulling the tracks together?
I think the colabs were important for the EP, my partnership with Andrezz is everyday, we see almost every day and are always in the studio, recording our podcast and making songs. The song "Midnight Love" in collaboration with Iriann Joyce received a great remix from dRamatic & dbAudio, I have a great relationship with them, and saw a great expectation on this track. All part of the job.
Where are some of the places we can see you playing live in the near future?
In São Paulo in Brazil and I still hope to play in many places because we have a very big country and rich cultures that fit perfectly with the drum & bass. I wish I could do soon a tour of Europe, to know places and clubs like Fabric, Cable and many others. I believe that in 2013 will be full of possibilities, so I can only wait and see what happens, I'm very anxious for it all!
