Deathtech Presents The Titans LP

Overtech

This week saw the release of The Titans LP, a co-production from Overtech Recordings and the Close 2 Death camp, which sees the two crews teaming up to make the Deathtech Music Group, with the aim of reigniting the neuro d&b scene. The 20-tracker contains monsters from the likes of Anthrax, Camel, Maztech and many more. Jae from Overtech has been one of the driving forces behind the album, and he spoke to Kmag recently about the project and how it came about.

The new album sees Overtech teaming up with the Close 2 Death crew – how did this collaboration come about?
It’s a pretty mad one. I have been a huge admirer of C2D ever since I heard Silent Extent – Falling Down. Back when I was trying to get Overtech set up with a distribution company, I had a message from Seizure saying that he has been checking out the first two releases I had and that he offers me his full support in helping me get started... Little did I know he was the main man from Close 2 Death.Ever since then, we have become very close friends, like brothers... We firmly believe that destiny played a major part in our lives.

Recently I have jumped onboard Close2 Death and now currently run C2D with Seizure, as well as Overtech, which is like a dream come true. We do plan to re-launch Fatality Recordings also; so many plans are already in place with the wheels in full motion.

Do you envisage the resultant Deathtech Music Group being in force just for this project, or with longer term future plans?
Well, with me and Seizure joining forces, “DeathTech” is more about the unit that is the stable so to say, for the labels. We have discussed about having DeathTech as the main benchmark “mothership” Label, but who knows..... I guess you will just have to watch this space....

Tell us about who is on the LP, and how the tracklist was put together
With the magnitude of the amount of tracks, you wouldn’t think this was actually an intended 4 track EP. When I had pretty much finalised the EP, I was hit up by a guy from America called Parallax and he threw “Tensor” my way. When listening to the anger in the track, the vision clicked into my head of putting together an album, something that signifies and showcases some of the hottest talent all across the tech spectrum, established and up and coming.

The one thing that this album definitely showcases is the amount of quality producers from all over the world that are out there. You have artists from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Austria, UK, America, Bosnia, Czech Republic, Australia, Bulgaria, to name just a few. This, for me, definitely shows how much of a global sound “Neurofunk” is and I am very proud to put out a release that boasts this amount of artists on a global scale.

The Titans sees a mix of established and up and coming producers and artists – how deliberate was this, and what effect has this had on the final outcome?
The main reason for setting up Overtech was to give the artists a benchmark in getting their track(s) released. So I wanted to help some of the up and coming artists increase their release portfolio, not to mention give them the opportunity to feature on a release with some very big names in their own right, as to me the label is all about the music and the artists.

Give us an insight into some of the tracks on the album.
The album I hope reaches out to a wide spectrum. There is a wide range of styles in this album which I am really glad for as the target audience is opened up which is very beneficial for the label.

Tracks like “Avalon”, “Tensor”, “Leviathan” Nethermost”, “Hit Me”, Semantics remix of “Poseidon” are strictly for the floor, but then if you like rolling tracks, “Feel U”, “1 Litre Gratis”, “Micron”, “Retrogene”, & “Dying Star” would be perfect. And if you like euphoric tracks “Meteor” will definitely fit the bill and if you like a bit of eeriness, I would definitely recommend Cerberus and Freeze.

All tracks depict different moods, which I feel is very beneficial when putting together an album. Yeah you can have 20 tracks of full on smashers, but if you add that hint of diversity into the mix, you will get some great results.

What has been the reaction to the album tracks – from within the neuro/tech scene, from DJs, and from crowds?
With the diversity of the album, the results have been pretty astonishing. The album has gained support from many A-List artists across the whole d&b spectrum. Had some awesome feedback from the likes of John B, Optiv, Audio, The Upbeats, Mindscape, Black Sun Empire, Xilent, Memtrix, all the way across to the likes of Drumsound & Bassline Smith, DJ Fresh, Smooth & Andy C!

Kick some shouts to those who have been instrumental in putting things together.
Firstly I would like to thank every artist past and present on Overtech Recordings, as without you guys and your releases, the label would not be anywhere near to where it is now.

Kloe, Seizure and the Close 2 Death Boys for their guidance from the beginning, Qo for the awesome mastering job, Cooper & The YouSoFat Recordings guys, Axel & Waysh from The “NeurofunkGrid” and Curtis from “Darkstep Warrior” YouTube channel, Lewis, Callide & Stephen at Cygnus Music Distribution for their advice, professionalism and extensive in-depth support in all releases since the beginning and of course all the artists involved in the album for putting together 20 solid tracks. Other people who definitely deserve a shout : Xilent, Billain, Jade, Wreckage Machinery, Innate, PLO, Memtrix, Ford , Robyn Chaos, Lindsay ‘Sunshine’, Bes, High Miantenance, Square, Ignite, Coffey, & Skyz .
