Kasra

Critical Recordings is launching a  sister label called Modulations, label boss Kasra tells us what it's all about...

Why have you decided to launch a new label?
Technically it's not a new label, it's a series of releases that run in conjunction with "normal" Critical singles and albums. Think of it like a DNB version of a singles club.

What's the thinking behind the name Modulations?
Modulations because the properties have been altered - also aesthetically I like the word.

How will what you release on it be different to what comes out on Critical?
Like Critical it will be eclectic, Modulations will be a showcase for other tempos and genres as well as quality DNB.

The first release is a 10" is this going to be regular?

All the singles will be 10".

Is it going to be more of a "collectable" label?

Vinyl as a format has become increasingly for the collector. The high quality packaging and vinyl can only add to this.

Tell us more about the first release...

The first release is by Lenzman, he's been making some high grade music for a while now and I'm really excited he wanted to do something for Critical. Both tracks showcase his trademark deepness.

Any other Modulations releases in the pipeline you can tell us about?
The second release is by a new producer called Hybris, he's from the US via Prague. A few weeks ago I hadn't heard his music and now I'm playing at least four of his tracks per set. The lead track called The Cleaner has been smashed by a lot of the DJs on the circuit. Expect a lot from this guy on Critical in the future.

How often can we expect releases?
Every six to eight weeks.
