German drum & bass label Camino Blue have just launched a sister label called Drone Audio. The men behind both labels are Niko Brenscheid and Patrick Vollmari who produce under the alias P.B.K.
'We've been producing since 1992 and we had first vinyl release on the first German drum & bass label Smokin Drums back in 1995,' says Patrick. 'In 2004 we started our own imprint Camino Blue with a focus on the deeper side of drum & bass. So far we've released ten 12"s, two compilation CDs and three digital albums featuring artists like Furney, Electrosoul System, Nookie and Future Engineers.'
Why have you set up Drone Audio? 'Mainly as a platform to release a contrast to the classic atmospheric sound P.B.K. and Camino Blue are associated with,' states Niko. 'We've always loved the sounds of labels as Metalheadz and No-U-Turn.'
'Right now we're seeing a good change within the d&b scene with lots of fresh and exciting tunes,' Patrick continues. 'DJs are mixing various styles again, former producers of sawtooth rinse-out material are writing more musical stuff and classic atmospheric producers are working on tunes that work inside the club and on your iPod. Drone Audio stands for this new breed and nestles in-between terms such as dark, techy, neuro, experimental, deep or ambient. It will release on vinyl, but will also bring lots of new talents to your ears via LPs and compilations. Quality instead of quantity.'
What are your forthcoming releases? 'Our first 12" has just come out and features Sunchase's track 'Violet', which just got licensed to the new mix CD from London Elektricity & High Contrast, and an Ulterior Motive remix of Reguez's' 'Safe Haven',' answers Niko. 'The next 12" comes from Sunchase (pictured above) together with his debut album 'Why Am I Doing This'. Later this year we're going to release another 12" and an album from a newcomer from Poland called Razor Point that includes a remix from John B.'
Anything else you want to tell us about? 'Earlier this year we set up the Camino Blue / Drone Audio podcast,' concludes Patrick. 'It keeps you up to date with fresh music and guest mixes. Download it on our website or subscribe direct inside iTunes.'
