Black Sun Empire

Kmag touches down with the three-headed beast known as Black Sun Empire for a quick chat regarding their forthcoming From The Shadows LP slated for a mid-September release on BSE Recordings.

What kind of vibe should we be expecting from the new LP? We've noticed you guys have been dipping into a "hint" of dubstep now and then in your DJ sets, is this going to hold true on the album as well?
The album will be 100% drum & bass and it's a nice mix of everything we are capable of.

Your LP projects almost always feature some killer collaborations. Any special names we should be looking out for this time around?
The album will be full with collaborations varying from Noisia, Foreign Beggars, Audio, State of Mind to Thomas Oliver and more, but we'll keep the rest a secret for now.

Your Blackout nights have become a huge part of your identity and continue to do well. Tell us about your decision to take the Blackout vibe international. Any upcoming dates/events we should be looking out for?
Coming January we'll be playing host for ten years. Blackout is basically our label night and represents everything we like in drum & bass and since we have particular taste it seemed like a logical step to bug the rest of the world with what we stand for.

We have two big Blackouts coming up, one on June 23rd in Brussels with ourselves, DJ Hype, Shy FX, Sigma, Optical going back-to-back with BTK, Calyx, Alix Perez, Shock One, The Panacea vs. Gancher and Ruin, Glyph, Daddy Earl, and Stamina MC. We'll also be having a night at Cable in London on July 21st with ourselves, Dillinja, Ed Rush, dBridge, BTK, Neonlight, Alley Cat, SP:MC, 2SHY MC & MC Lowqui.

Any releases we should be looking out for before the album hits?
On Obsessions we've got Illusions from Chris.SU and a Mindscape remix of Chris.SU's Datahub due out on June 25th. Our From The Shadows album will be preceded by a remix EP/album sampler due out in August that featuring the likes of Mindscape, Jade, Neonlight, and Telekinesis, so keep an eye out for that as well.

As Told To: Chris Muniz
