Bad Taste Recordings are now up to the fifth volume in their compilation series, and are not slowing down. After the griminess of volume 4, 5 is a step beyond. Featuring Royalston, Blokhe4d, Telekinesis, Neonlight, Prolix and Aeph, the album is set to smash. We chatted to Aeph about the release, which you can check out below, alongside a recent Aeph mix.

Hey Aeph, how are you? You’ve had an interesting journey, tell us a little about your career and music making to date.
I started at the age of 16 - I knew what drum & bass was but I wasn't really into it, I was producing rap beats, old skool electro and playing out with my metal band. I slowly stepped into drum & bass at the age of 21 when it evolved in something wider, subdivided between different styles, influenced by different genres of music...
How could I say no to this? Drum & bass is the Babylon, a dance music orgy. I was lucky that in that period there were some really cool parties in my home town. I first became a DJ, then because of it I had the feeling I should play out my own music…and then everything started.

Your sound seems to fit perfectly with the Bad Taste vibe. How did you get hooked up with the label?
The first time I spoke with Uman and Vegas from Blokhe4d was online, they signed one of my tunes
and I was so happy about it. Bad Taste was definitely a big step for my career. Then we decided to meet up in their studio and it was love at first sight! We see music in the same way, we help each other in our journey, they believe in me and I trust in what they are doing for me. As a producer, I couldn't ask for anything better.

The lineup for Bad Taste 5 looks immense. How does it feel to be on the compilation?
It's my second time on a Bad Taste album and I'm excited like the first time.

Tell us about some of the other artists featured on volume 5.
We've got some brand new names this time and I like that. Bad Taste always believes in giving new acts a chance, and often puts them to the test... and the new guys did a great job. Urbandawn, Dubapes and Fistognosticated have a bright future in front of them. Loki always delivers powerful neurobeats, same for Royalston. Blokhe4d, Prolix and Neonlight are always beyond dispute.

What’s next on the calendar for Aeph?
Hopefully a bit of sun in this grey English summer. The rest will be a surprise.
