Chicago based label Adapter Audio recently released the first in a series of singles that looks to stretch the traditional assumptions of what currently passes for drum & bass.

The man behind the label is Radiata, aka Chris Gilbert of Breakbeat Science Bookings.

"I come across some pretty unique and interesting producers via my job at BBS Bookings," Chris said, "so I wanted to set up Adapter Audio for them, to get their tunes out there.

"There is a really amazing crop of producers in America right now and Adapter exists to show them to the world through cool handcrafted vinyl releases."

Chris emphasised the unique sound he hopes to produce, and it's easy to see why as Adapter Audio's debut release, Bare Tactics / Mist Born by Brandon Miles & Tricky Pat (pictured), strikes the balance between the electric hype of Lynx and the chilled out darkness of Instra:mental, all the while creating something truly different.

Chris is all set to give the release the care it deserves. "We wanted to do something special to commemorate the start of the label, really kick it off in style," he enthused.

"We've used hand-screened artwork by a local Chicago artist on the sleeve, cut the tunes to 7" vinyl and limited the amount produced to 300," he added. "We believe that if music is good enough it deserves this kind of attention."

It's also available digitally and Chris hopes Adapter Audio will have three more releases out by the end of 2010. "It takes time to do things if you do them differently and properly," he admitted. "We want to take our time and do each one right; we treat every release like it's an art project."
