Korg microKEY

Korg has announced a slim, lightweight USB-powered keyboard aimed at the compact, mess-free modern recording studio.

The price hasn't been confirmed but these are its main features:

  • Thin, lightweight
  • USB-powered
  • 37 velocity-sensitive mini keys
  • Octave Shift and Key Transpose features access the full MIDI note range
  • Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels
  • Dual USB ports for adding Korg's nanoPAD or nanoKONTROL (or other USB devices) to your setup

You can use this device to daisy chain other devices. This solves the problem of using up all of your laptop's inputs for Korg's nano series.

The keys on the microKEY are physically the same as the ones on the microKORG XL synth/vocoder and microSTATION.

The hardware is compatible with the freely downloadable Korg Kontrol Editor software, enabling one to customise the keyboard's eight velocity curves as well as the range of the modulation wheel.

Finally, the keyboard comes with software licenses for the Korg M1 LE synthesiser, Lounge Lizard Session and EzDrummer Lite, on top of discount coupons for the Ableton Live sequencer range.

The Korg microKEY is coming November 2010.
