With Ram Records' Wilkinson playing at Cable in London on Friday June 1st for Get Darker vs Drum&BassArena we thought it a good time to find out the five tunes that have shaped his sound.
1. Souls Of Mischief - From 93 Till Infinity
This has to be one of my favourite tunes of all time. I went through a massive hip hop phase when I was about ten-years-old. Souls Of Mischief, Jurassic 5, A Tribe Called Quest... I've always loved my hip hop and this gets rolled out every summer! All about the drum break as well!
2. High Contrast - Lovesick
This is definitely one of the three tunes that cemented my love and passion for drum & bass. Whenever I'm in a shitty mood or had a tough day this tune is guaranteed to make me feel better. I remember having a crappy mp3 player that could only hold about six tunes and I broke the adapter for my computer so I would always listen to the same tunes on the way to college on my moped. This song reminds me of my college days.
3. Bonobo feat. Andreya Triana - Eyesdown
I'd say the whole Bonobo album Black Sands change my life. It has to be the most beautiful album I've ever heard, so many different moods, original melodies and harmonies. Just find some grass in the sun, roll a fat one and lay listening to this album.
4. Ed Rush & Optical - Bacteria (Pendulum Remix)
Chin strokers are gonna hate on this. I love the original but the remix is just sick. Again, this is one of the three tunes that cemented my love for drum & bass. The mixdown is incredible on it. I still pull this tune out in my sets sometimes and it always goes off!
5. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime
This is my number one tune for the beach. I've got so much respect for Jazzy Jeff! Check the video after for another reason why he is sick.
