We've got a fantastic mix of different styles in this two-part list showcasing the best official videos released in July. There's a very high standard of visual quality in the mix, and some excellent music as well of course! Here's the first part.
Adam F - Elements
From the forthcoming 'Elements' EP, this new offering from drum & bass/jungle veteran and joint-head of Breakbeat Kaos Adam F shows the legendary producer straying into electro-wobble territory. The video provides fans with a glimpse into the touring life of an international DJ as we see the man himself travelling the globe and tearing up venues worldwide.
High Rankin' & Tigerlight – Day To Die
Available for free download now, 'Day To Die' is from High Rankin's 'Breaking Hearts and Minds EP'. The video accompanies a tune it would seem has mainstream ambitions, and, in a gritty addition to this list here, is full of gangland footage of some rather unpleasant violence and torture; featuring the artists themselves in the lead roles.
Drumsound & Bassline Smith – Through The Night (feat. Tom Cane)
Key players in the drum & bass scene, Drumsound & Bassline Smith present the video for their new single 'Through The Night', featuring vocalist Tom Cane. The video follows a tearaway couple on a journey taking place during the last night on Earth. It's available from July 29th, accompanied by remixes from Bare Noize, 501, Marco V, The Shadowchild and Horx & P3000.
N-Type & Surge – September Sun (feat. Pyxis)
This track comes from the 'September Sun EP', released last month on Wheel & Deal Records. Soulful vocals, twinkling piano keys and a throbbing bass-line are matched with a video which one wouldn't be out of place to describe as something of a sombre affair. Entirely in black and white, it portrays a young boy in distress building up to him committing a rather disturbing act of violence. Enjoy.
DRS – Count To Ten (feat. Enei)
Out on the esteemed Soul:R Recordings imprint towards the end of this month, there's an intriguing mix of new and old going on here. DRS is a man who's been in the jungle scene since the mid-90s with links to Good Looking Records and the atmospheric, jazzy sound of that era. He teams up with Enei here, a young Russian producer becoming increasingly prolific and versatile with each release. Musically the menacing, sparse vibe of the track is matched by footage of DRS performing his lyrical duties in various urban environments.
Beardyman Vs. Doorly – Vampire Skank
This Doorly re-work of the (former) beatboxer's latest track is in the same vein as the frankly bizarre sounds to be found on Beardyman's debut 'I Done A Album'. The video features some sinister puppets engaging in an extremely tongue-in-cheek Romanian/gypsy ode to dubstep, before the strobes drop in and we're treated to, as you might have guessed, some rather mid-tempo wobble dubstep territory. Carnage ensues as the police cruise in to arrest the puppets and the Amen-breaks arrive, leaving the viewer slightly baffled but rather amused all the same!
Sidius – Robot Rave
Out earlier this year on Steam Recordings, this track comes from the label's head honcho Sidius. It has a fun, dirty and energetic sound; very much complimented by a humorous video. Catchy hooks are synchronised with some odd behaviour around the streets of London by people in cardboard robot suits.
Noisia – Tommy's Theme
Moving away from their tech-step roots, Dutch trio Noisia have since reached a widespread audience following on from the release of their debut album. Today fans will find a variety of styles from across the electronic music spectrum in their live sets and production, and 'Tommy's Theme' is included on the hard to categorise Split The Atom: Special Edition. Macabre and apocalyptic, the video documents what appears to be a battle between riot police and circus folk in an industrial wasteland.
Cato – Spotlight (feat. Lucy Randell)
This track comes from the debut release from Cato, the Spotlight E.P., out now on Sin City Recordings; a label formed by dub-step heavyweights Hatcha and N-Type back in 2009. A disturbingly psychedelic video, featuring multiple images of vocalist Lucy Randell merged together with lurid colours, fits the off-key vibe of the tune brilliantly and provides a fascinating watch!
Craggz & Parallel – Hurt You
Craggz & Parallel's latest offering is taken from the 'Product Placement' EP, out now on their own label Product. Since the release of their acclaimed album Turn The Page in 2010, the duo have been delivering intricately produced drum & bass music which doesn't fit into any particular sub-genre. A very well crafted video, perfectly synchronised with the driving bass-line and vocal hook should encapsulate most viewers, although avoid if you're prone to having seizures!
