Fanu answers our Usual Questions...
What's your earliest memory?
Sitting on the back of some mechanic elephant in an amusement park!
What were you like in school?
Pretty average, except I always excelled at English and was way ahead of my classmates... thanks to computers (Spectrum 48k forever!).
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Never really wanted to be much except being free and doing things I like, and I've kept that up. I did want to become a DJ and a producer, which did kinda happen!
What are you good at that would surprise people?
Making pizza! Also, skateboarding is a lifestyle thing to me, which has surprised many people. I love it.
What are you scared of?
Losing my passion for the things I love the most. Thinking of that scares me.
What's been your worst job?
Being in the army (that's compulsory here in Finland) takes the prize.
What are you obsessed with?
Skateboarding and drinking coffee. I simply have to do those things every day, more or less, or I get really grumpy. It's a total addiction.
What do you hate right now?
Some promoters who are giving me headache. Everyone can be a promoter, unfortunately: even those with poor communication skills.
What's the best record you've made?
My latest album, Homefree, or the one before that, Daylightless.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever had?
Whoever said one should stick to his guns said it best.
Who's your all-time hero & why?
In jungle it's Bukem and Paradox I guess. Long-time veterans, who achieved a lot and made great music.
What's your vice?
Coffee insanity... and peanut butter!
What do you spend your money on?
Skateboard decks unfortunately... I've broken so many lately.
What's the worst item of clothing you've ever worn?
These MASSIVE hip hop / raver pants from early nineties. They were called 'Phobia' and some people's jokes about me wearing a tent were so spot-on!
What's the coolest thing you own?
Akai s5000.
What was your last big treat for yourself?
The new iPhone 3GS.
If you had a Tardis, what time would you go to?
You made me use a dictionary for this one! I'd check out the middle-age China and the whole samurai thing (and probably lose my head).
What would you change about yourself if you could?
I'd let go of worrying. I worry a lot about things in the future. It seems I can never live happy in this moment right now, as some uncertainty in the future often spoils it for me (often it's money, heh).
What can't you live without?
My skateboard, coffee, the Internet, humour, food.
What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Put the coffee on and start exercising a bit.
What was the first record you bought?
Goldie's Timeless LP and Run DMC's Down With The King 12" were among the first ones.
Who or what makes you laugh?
Trisector is my flatmate, and we share the same kind of low humour. That often makes me laugh.
What's the best piece of equipment you've ever used?
I'd say a good studio mixing desk, such as older Soundcrafts. They definitely made the biggest impression on me sound-wise. Still got one!
What was the best set you've ever heard?
Some Doc Scott mix with MC Justyce from 1997 or so... damn dope!!
Have you got any travel horror stories?
Got food poisoned big time in the middle of my last year's USA tour. Had to fly to SF in the morning and play there the same night... it almost became the first gig I'd ever cancel, but I made it. Spent three days in bed after that. A nightmare for sure.
What's the most memorable crowd you've played to?
Toronto, Canada, 2008. 'Sick' and 'insane' are the words.
What was the last non-drum & bass album you bought?
Some Children Of Bodom album I think.
Who would be playing at your ideal night out?
Amon Tobin, DJ Krush, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul.
Who would you like to co-produce with?
I should be collabing with Polar, as we discussed that recently. That'd be my dream collabo, so we should make that happen!
What tune would you like to remix?
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions by this cool metal band called He Is Legend.
Where do you surf on the internet?
www.theberrics.com , www.skateboarding.com , www.ebay.com, mainly.
Finally, you have 30 seconds to plug what you're up to. Go!
My new album Homefree just came out so you should get that. Check the discography section at www.fanumusic.com to check the flavour, yo!
