Bristol-based DJ, producer and promoter Kraymon is a name most recognise for producing breakbeat tracks but as he launches his new label, Louse Records, focusing on more experimental sounds, that could be about to change. We spoke to him to find out about his new direction and imprint...
What was the inspiration in setting up Louse Records?
I'm hearing and making a lot of music that I think doesn't fit into a strict genre. I know what I want Louse Records to sound like but it's hard to explain exactly what that is. I know it when I hear it. I hope this will mean Louse forges a unique sound that others will appreciate. It's a challenge setting up a label and it gives me freedom to do whatever I want.
Which artists do you find musically exciting at the moment?
Kloudbreak and Mothboy! Hyetal's Phoenix has just blown me away and there's others like Martyn, Baobinga, Ramadanman, Si Begg, Peo De Pitte and Mr No Hands... Plus The Loops of Fury's Rack Em is banging! There's too many to say here really...
You've just released your Slick Tricks backed with a remix by fellow Bristol-based DJ and Producer, Wascal as Louse001 and announced that Louse002 will be Kloudbreak's The River, featuring a Kraymon remix that'll be dropping sometime in October. Is there a focus on Bristol-based producers for the label, and what can we expect for the future in terms of production and artists?
Well The River has also been remixed by Mothboy who isn't Bristol based, so I'm not ruling anyone out. I think it's great to be able to hook up with someone for a beer and a chat about music in Bristol, so it does seem to make sense. There is a lot of good music here too so it's just worked out that way so far. I'm always looking for demos from anywhere, just send them here. I try to listen to everything and comment back.

Aside from production, you also DJ, what can we expect to hear you playing out in a regular set at the moment?
It really depends on the night. I do love playing a dirty breaks set as much as a house / techno set. I'm yet to properly road test this new stuff I'm into but if anyone wants to hear me do that then please get in touch.
We've also heard that you've been experimenting with a live DJ set-up, what equipment are you using and how's it going?
Yeah I've done a few short sets in Bristol. I have a MacBook Pro running Ableton, some external FX/controllers and synths and things. I've recently been performing my vocal remixes/tracks with the singers. A guy behind equipment is a bit dull, but add some talented sexy ladies and you are onto a winner!
You've given you track Time Wasting to give away to Kmag readers. What made you choose this track?
This is an oldie, but unlike some of my tracks I still love it. I was listening to "Circulation" house tunes at the time and I wanted to convey the same vibe but with a nice breakbeat in there.
