Soundmurderer

In the EDM culture, Detroit and techno kind of go hand and hand. However, to those who hone in on the sounds of 180 beat per minute gut wrenching Amens, there's only one thing that comes to mind, Soundmurderer. Owning and operating Rewind Records is Todd Osborn, aka Soundmurderer, who has been pushing out his unique style of heavy Amen ragga since the 90s. With getting his DJ start at a very young age in Japan, Todd began searching for those personal tunes that fit his style. Not having much luck finding many of those records he began producing his own style of ragga jungle which was been sought out and horded by enthusiasts and DJs ever since.

Having owned several synths, drum machines, and samplers early in his career, Todd soon realized that he could make EDM without spending thousands of dollars on gear. This understanding came to him after buying his first proper computer; from that point the DIY mentality kicked in. Todd accredits much of his success to being realistic yet a bit cynical about everything he does. However, his biggest push has been taking matters into his own hands and not waiting around for someone else to do things for him. The ultimate power of executing your concept exactly how you want. This definitely carried over into Rewind Records where he and SK-1 (Tadd Mullinix) started putting out vinyl only to have their own dubplates to play out.

"The first Rewind was pressed only because I thought it would be nice to have an exclusive release at my store and to document a couple of our early productions on vinyl," says Todd.

With a steady flow of releases in house, techno, metal, experimental, ghetto, and ragga for just about over a decade now, Todd is setting his sights on a new label that will showcase multiple genres of music. Unlike his labels in the past where they have showcased his own sounds, this new imprint will bring productions from a wide variety of producers. Never fear though, Rewind Records will be releasing Rewind #9 and #10, as well as some remixes in the future. There are also plans for a Soundmurderer compilation on the mighty Rephlex label that has been pumping out hits since 1991. With the good, comes the bad though as Todd would like to shut down Rewind after the remixes come out. Have no fear however, as he plans on still releasing his killer ragga jungle on other labels.

Be sure to check out Soundmurderer as he plans to remake his tour after his bike accident that left him with nine broken bones including a punctured lung which has been keeping him from flying. We here at Knowledge wish him a speedy recovery and the best of luck.
