My Year Of Mixtapes

There are some really amazing blogs out there. The web continually opens up more ideas by more people to more people. Chrissy Murdabot is a 27-year-old American DJ/producer hailing from Chicago, Illinois. I've been following his blog for some time now and think this is definitely the right time to share it with you to.

I first discovered his space when investigating Belgian New Beat (1987-1989-ish), which was Belgian techno's industrial soaked predecessor (more about that later).

Although Chrissy has a multitude of web spaces, the one that caught my attention and the one most significant to the old skool amongst us is his utterly brilliant My Year Of Mixtapes blog.

Each month (or thereabouts) he conjures up a mighty mix of amazing music, and let me tell you, this guy knows his shit.

These mixes are not only a pleasure to listen to but they are also a miniature history lesson in their own right.

Impeccably researched, the text that accompanies each mix is intrinsic to the music itself and unlike some of the mixes that are widely available on the net, you really feel like you've gained something from these journeys.

There are no boundaries here either, Chrissy skips genres seamlessly. What I find most interesting (and quite amazing) is his focus on the UK scene.

I just didn't expect a Chicago based DJ to have the knowledge and access to British (and European for that matter) music the way he has, and to know so much about it too.

If expanding your musical horizons is important to you (and I guess it is otherwise you wouldn't be reading this) then this Blog has to be seen to be believed...

I've learnt masses from this guy, and I'd love to know how he has managed to amass such a huge variety of music. This is what the internet is really all about for me, expanding horizons and satisfying the first for KNOWLEDGE...
