The latest Sonic Cinema event at the British Film Institute on London’s South Bank will see rap legend Ice-T screen Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap, his directorial debut. The film, which features contributions from rap royalty including Eminem, Kanye West, Nas and Chuck D, will be show in conjunction with an onstage Q&A from Ice-T himself. The event is taking place on Friday 20 July.
Ice-T has been at the top of the rap game ever since his 1987 debut, Rhyme Pays. He was a figurehead in the 1990s West Coast gangsta rap scene, and has since gone on to a highly successful TV and film career also (he has been a regular on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit for over a decade).
Something from Nothing is a journey through rap and hip hop from someone who knows. Ice talks to names such as KRS-One, Nas, Eminem, Dr Dre, Chuck D, Snoop Dogg and Kanye West to examine the history of rap. The film also features performances exclusive to the project.
After the showing and the Q&A, Sonic Cinema DJ Tayo Popoola will lay the beats down until late.
