J Beatz

 

J Beatz has assembled an extraordinary musical CV ever since he started entering small competitions a few years back, his journey so far has seen him work with some of the finest talent grime has on its varied roster, which range from the technical rhyme-bending skills of Devlin to the hardcore and ruthless style of Big H. His work has also led to collaborations with grime royalty like Boy Better Know pioneer JME as well as highly regarded dubstep producer Sukh Knight. With a digital release under his belt already, J Beatz gives you the 1 Dutty EP, his first vinyl effort.

The EP is full of rhythmic energy with Cash Point capturing that perfectly, swinging between catchy electronic bursts and a nasty percussive bassline whilst Ragga Muffin provides a smooth yet amazingly effective melody, re-visiting grime's much favoured reggae roots in the process. Dutty is a spectacular affair of electrical synths but pales in comparison when put next to Tazer, the clear highlight, with its in-your-face and uptempo style of poisonous synths that have left grime raves in a mess this year!
