Sampling has been at the heart of making dance music right from the 80s. How you do it has changed in over the years of course (you don't need hardware like an Emu 6400 Ultra sampler any more and samples now come in download packs as well as CDs and DVDs), but a sample is still simply any piece of sound – it could be a fragment of music, of speech or a microphone recording. Sampling means taking pieces of sound and reworking them to make music.

From next week until mid December we're going to have a special season dedicated to sampling. We'll be taking an in-depth look at the art & craft of sampling.

You'll find a special series of features dedicated to the world of sampling: What Makes A Good Sample, The Past, Present & Future of Sampling and the Top 10 Most Used Drum & Bass Samples.

In our latest podcast hosts GLP & DJ PDex check out the origins of the famous Amen break...

We'll also have a great competition where you could win a Maschine kindly given to us by our friends at Native Instruments. Check our preview here...

Plus a competition to win £500 worth of vouchers, to spend how ever you choose at www.SoundsToSample.com
