Roska

UK funky producer / DJ Roska has just released his debut album so we spent five minutes firing questions at him...

Tell us about yourself...
I'm Roska of Roska Kicks & Snares I am a music producer and DJ. I also have a show on Rinse FM every tuesday 5pm - 7pm GMT.

If you had to sum up your album in one sentence...
My album is a collection of DJ friendly tracks on one CD or Vinyl of my interpretation of music

What did you want to get over to your listeners?
I wanted to show my listeners something fresh and new with influences of my past genres including garage, grime, electro and house in one album.

Have you been surprised by how well it's been received?
The response has all been good overall. To be honest though no one would really tell you your album's rubbish to your face, it's more likely to happen behind your back.

Do you ever feel you sound could be played on daytime radio? Is that a future aspiration?
I'm not really bothered about if my tracks played on daytime radio or not. I'll leave it down to the stations and those who have control over the playlist selection to decide weather it can be played or not.

What's your thoughts on the UK funky scene right now?
UK funky ain't dead or whatever these forum geeks would like to say. It's still here, just a few new characters on the scene.

You recently toured America, how was that? How did they react to your sound?
They all love it. Of all the 11 shows I done out there there was a few Roska fans and a few Rinse FM listeners so it worked out really well.

You're playing at Sonar & Outlook this summer, what are your thoughts on taking your sound to these events?
I'm looking forward to pushing the barrier up a few notches again.

It's early days, after the release of your album, but what’s the next step for you?
I'm working on some more tracks with my partner in crime Jamie George and a few collaborations later this year.
