Spectrasoul
Mimic / Supression
Subtitles
Firing out bangers seems to come with consummate ease for the Spectrasoul boys at the moment as they represent on TeeBee's Subtitles label with this top-drawer release. Mimic is yet another expert lesson in minimal but deadly d&b, crisp beats and growling bass the order of the day here. Supression has a haunting vocal and a more tribal feel to the drums but is equally effective through a nice large pair of speakers.
Chase & Status
End Credits VIP / Is It Worth It VIP
Ram
Love them or hate them, there's certainly no way you can possibly ignore Chase & Status at the moment as they look all set to follow Pendulum and gain real mainstream crossover success. End Credits VIP features in the new British movie Harry Brown starring none other than Michael Caine and features Plan B on the vocals and is a typically raucous slice of uptempo d&b. On the flip, they revisit one of the finer moments from their recent More Than Alot LP and give Is It Worth It a fresh lick of paint by way of a VIP mix.
Ant TC1 & DLR / Survival
Space & Time / Betrayed
Dispatch
Stripped back d&b at its finest here from Leeds based Ant TC1 who collaborates with DLR on the tech influenced flavours of Space & Time. This is streamlined d&b in the Virus mould which, of course, is no bad thing. Survival offers up the flipside Betrayed, which takes things deeper with haunting FX and deep subs. Big release all round.
DJ Marky & S.P.Y.
Give Me Your Love EP
Innerground
Marky and S.P.Y. bring back the sunshine on this excellent EP for Innerground. Featuring four tracks of blessed out summer vibes, you'll soon be forgetting about the plummeting temperatures once this is on the deck. The title track features Random Movement and fuses funky guitar with a dash of wobble. Days Go Slow is a true singalong anthem featuring the vocal talents of Miri. Kinky Funky rolls in on a 70s groove and closing track Tapestry rounds things off with uplifting strings and a deadly bassline.
J Majik & Wickaman
Feel About You (Original Sin Remix)
Mosquito
J Majik & Wickaman return with Feel About You, the debut release on their brand new Mosquito imprint. It's unashamedly commercial with a catchy vocal hook, reminiscent of Blame's recent output and surely destined for Radio 1 airplay. The real gem here is the Original Sin mix on the flipside which switches things up for the dancefloor, heavyweight pressure all the way, injecting more energy and bounce factor into the track.
