Rudimentary Records

Rudimentary Records is a new imprint based out of Belfast specialing in bass music in its many forms. Label co-owner Rory, aka DJ Beckett, gives us the lowdown.

Why have you set the label up?
We've been running gigs over here for the last three or four years and always intended to run a label showcasing the music that we love as another side to that venture. Guests to date have included Shackleton, Martyn, Daedelus, Mark Pritchard, Flevans... so we have a pretty broad spectrum we cover.

Who is involved with running it?
I've have been running irishdrumandbass.com for ten years now and DJing under the name Beckett for as long over here in Ireland. My partner Andy is a designer and DJ who, amongst others, works with Calibre on Signature's artwork.

What's the ethos behind the label?
We'd look at labels like Warp, or Hyperdub and hope to be in a similar position to them in the next five years, we just want to release amazing electronic music, with our focus mostly on bass music in all its forms, be it drum & bass, dub techno, dubstep... whatever. Our first few releases are digital only, with a mind to release some collectable 10"s towards the end of the year.

Can you tell us more about your key artists?
Our first release is by Yoru, who is a Belfast based producer under a new moniker, who has been producing for over five years. Our next release is by a newcomer called Roughquest from Oxford who flexes some deep low end basslines. Yoru's A Different Animal is out now and Roughquest's Play is released in March.

Anything else you want to tell us about?
