Fresh boi

DJ Fresh - Heavyweight / Fantazia (Digital Soundboy)
Ok so if you don't know about this one you've obviously just escaped from a maximum security jail. Easily the biggest tune of the year, Fresh absolutely murders allcomers with this bonkers b-line banger, aptly titled 'Heavyweight'. With the duttiest low end imaginable set against a backdrop of old skool 'Bambaataa' style drums, this is instantly recognisable as THE anthem of the year.

Cabbie / Serum - Blast Off (Majistrate & Nicol Remix) / Mechagodzilla (Nam Muzik)
Straight out to the marching kru on this one as Majistrate & Nicol revamp Cabbie's massive 'Blast Off' with a serious dose of extra wobble. This one built for maximum damage in the dance. Serum comes correct on the flipside 'Mechagodzilla' with a call and response bassline sure to induce instant rewind fever in any self respecting jump-up head.

Icicle - Frozen / Cold Revenge (Renegade Hardware)
The ever consistent Dutch master Icicle ups the ante for Hardware with this double dose of glacial darkness. 'Frozen' is a sublime slice of audio deepness with enough bassline pressure to fill a large cavern. A mysterious stepper if ever there was one. 'Cold Revenge' continues the theme with chiming FX and deadly morphing bass. Serious stuff.

Heist / DJ Pleasure - Mr Creepy / Untitled Roller (Calypso Muzak)
Heist shows his versatility after engineering the recent Rufige Kru LP by returning to the world of wobble with this heads down no nonsense banger on Calypso Muzak. 'Mr Creepy' is pure energy on wax, the sort of tune that is guaranteed to annoy the fuck out of your neighbours. DJ Pleasure's 'Untitled Roller' does exactly what it says on the tin. With a skipload of jump-up menace thrown in for good measure.

Muffler - Falling 2009 / The Moment (Big Riddim)
Heralding something of a return to form for the man like Muffler, he follows his excellent recent Hospital offering 'Hear Me Scream' with this classic 'hands-in-the-air' anthem. This remix of 'Falling', originally released on Moving Shadow back in 2004, sees the Finnish wonderkid update with extra bleeps and high end synths added to the oft-used vocal from Masters At Work's 'To Be In Love'. Flipside 'The Moment' rolls in on an equally classic vibe with pianos and soaring pads that will have you reaching for those lasers.
