Structure is an American drum & bass producer who has just released a techstep concept album called Machina Complex. We spoke to him to find out more.
Please introduce yourself...
Good day, my name is Structure and I'm a live drum & bass producer based out of the USA. I've been producing drum & bass since 1996 and I've loved each and every second of the process.
Tell us more about the album you're releasing...
Machina Complex is a concept album that ties into my screenplay Simian Soldiers; it comes from the angle what would happen if mechanical beings made music and the very birth of the first mechanical (or mecha) organic soul. It's a classic techstep album all the way. It is part two of a four part opus I'm recording; I literally wanted to make the largest single body of work by a single artist in drum & bass. It's four concepts to represent four sides of drum & bass.
What's the thought process behind the title?
I always have been fascinated by cybernetics and how technology and humanity are becoming blurred in the lines between each; how much and how far we go is only limited by our imagination.
Can we expect anything different on it?
Yes, expect the most forward-thinking creative drum & bass that can be made with two hands. I'm always looking for new ways to create concept albums and be in the clouds creatively.
Over what period was it made?
It was made over a two year period from 2008 to late 2010.
What else are you working on at the moment?
The next chapter of the concept. It's entitled Subjugation and is the sequel to Machina Complex.
