Rupture @ Corsica Studios Review

Double O

Celebrating their third birthday in style, the Rupture family returned to Elephant & Castle's Corsica Studios with its dimly lit, semi-underground feel which has now become an ideal home for the crew and their faithful. Since kicking things off back in April '06 at Camden's Dingwalls, head honchos Mantra and Double O have built a fine reputation for quality drum & bass nights where more experimental versions of the form are not frowned upon and the crowd are both knowledgeable and up for the party.

The place is already looking lively as we arrive to the sounds of Rupture resident Bekah nicing things up in the main room with Blackeye and Joker D on mic hosting duties. Popping across to the second room we catch Breakage rolling out some deadly dubstep riddims to a packed crowd in near darkness, working the crystal clear sound system.

After an extended break (ahem) in the spacious smoking area, we head back to the main room and catch Loxy and dBridge battling it out back to back, locked in a ferocious 'world's duttiest tune' contest while SP, Fozz, Joker D, Blackeye and Bassline all take their turns on the mic.

It's up to hosts Double O (pictured) and Mantra to follow and they keep the vibes rolling in fine style with a wicked selection, complemented by Blackeye and Bassline. Before heading out into the early morning South London smog, we soak up some serious drumfunk pressure courtesy of Equinox and Dub One, who are expertly guiding the remaining ravers into the early hours.

Decent sound system? Check. Wicked vibe? Check. Quality Music? Check. All the ingredients are right there. Here's to the next three years...
