Nu Venture Records recently put out their first release, Macca's Love Is Tender. Having already proved their worth with a series of free downloads and mixes, this new label promises to be something to keep an eye on. We spoke to label owner Chris Wilde to find out more...
First of all, tell us about yourself...
Nu Venture Records, based in the South East of England, was formed by myself as a platform for unheard material. The label was created with the intention to sign and promote new and up-and-coming artists to make their work more readily accessible and gain the recognition they deserve. We will be providing the industry with a blend of the finest new, upcoming and established artists, whilst generating a return for the artists for their dedication, commitment and passion.
How you came to making music and running one of the best up and coming labels around?
It all started a number of years ago listening to the sounds of Commix, High Contrast, Calibre, Logistics, Chase & Status, A.I., Fresh, etc in the early to mid 2000s. This passion for dnb exploded and not being content with just listening to dnb I purchased my first set of turntables. Plus with the constant stream of demos received by NVR this makes any mix all the more exhilarating. From here a natural development into the realms of dubstep, 2step, future garage, minimal and downtempo occurred. With a good ear for a well produced track, some serious research and a long time laying the foundations for NVR, the lifelong dream of running a record label finally became a reality in 2011.
Where would you like to see the label in five years time?
Within five years we aim to have made serious progress in the industry, with a succession of successful releases from new, upcoming and established artists, with the addition of some big new recruits, with exclusive deals to NVR, to help improve an already impressive artist roster. After a number of digital releases we intend to progress onto physical releases, with the occasional CD release and regular vinyl releases. From here we aim to commence regular drum & bass and dubstep label nights. The label nights are proposed to be launched later this year with collaborations alongside Discus Records and deep:expressions. Watch this space.
We also want to keep in touch with our audience and fans and plan to do so in the form of regular podcasts, which will be the best and first source of hearing forthcoming Nu Venture dubs and a reminder of already released tracks and imminent releases. In conjunction with the regular podcast we want to begin a series of demo casts.
What are your plans for the next few months? Do you have anything big lined up?
For NVR002 we have a feel-good liquid drum & bass EP forthcoming on February 20th. Following on from this we have a free download EP in March to show our appreciation to all the fans that have purchased and supported the first couple of releases, this will include some darker and heavier vibes. After a chain of individual artists singles and EPs we will be moving onto a couple of various artists EPs. A remix EP of the most successful NVR tracks is on the cards and some big remixes lined up, also with a potential remix competition. We will soon be starting to produce Nu Venture merchandise, beginning with t-shirts and eventually expanding the range of items, designs and colours later in the year. It will also soon be time for us to launch a long overdue Nu Venture website. The rest remains a tightly guarded secret and may contain some tracks you wouldn't necessarily expect from NVR.
What is your biggest goal for your label and why?
Our main goal is simply to entertain; if people enjoy our music then we know we are doing a good job and that we are achieving our goal, making all our hard work and dedication worthwhile. Plus this can all be achieved whilst helping to launch a producing career for up and coming artists. 2012 is shaping up to be a massive year from drum & bass and dubstep and to help increase awareness we will continue to promote the industry to an audience that may have been previously unaware as to what they are missing out on.
Finally, who would your dream artist to sign to the label? And why?
A seriously tough question, with all the producing talent out there today it's incredibly hard to narrow it down to one artist. However a group of artists do stand out above the rest, including: Lenzman for his deep liquid vibes that you cannot fail to like and can enjoy at any time of day; Commix as they offer some darker sounds and produce timeless classics that can be incorporated into any mix; Camo & Krooked for their sheer diversity and ability to make any style sound immense, they also poses a seriously impressive unique know how on how to smash any dance floor; Fred V & Grafix, having come so far in such a short period of time, they fully deserve their places on the Hospital Records roster
Any final words?
We would also like to say a BIG thank you to a number of people who have given us some massive support since the beginning. Your support is fully appreciated.
