Italian drum & bass label Modulate is releasing a 12" featuring three of Italy's best producers, Aeph & Dabs' Madbox and Maztek's Floating. We wanted to find out more about Modulate so here's what they had to say...

Please introduce yourself...
Modulate is an Italian based independent dnb label. The headquarters are in Bologna and Parma and the crew behind the project is composed of our boss lady Elena, DJ / event organizer Spiko and DJ / producer Matteo, aka Raid.

When did your label begin and why?
It was born in 2003 and has grown up slowly but surely... the love for dnb and urban beats has been the binding force. We liked the idea of helping new producers to be more visible in the dnb scene.

What's the ethos behind the label?
A label must represent a showcase for producers, this has been always our aim... and sometimes this has been misunderstood!

Tell us more about your key artists...
We have never focused on a single artist. Of course we have released a bunch of artists that will go on releasing for us, like Maztek, Flame, Arp XP and Jazzatron. They all are excellent producers!

On what formats do you release?
MP3 and vinyl. We have a direct contract with every major MP3 shop, while ST Holdings takes care of the press and distribution of our records. We cannot press all the good stuff we receive on wax so the best way of letting the world know what we love is digitally!

What do you look for in potential artists?
If we like it, we'll release it. What counts is that it sounds good!

Are you looking for more artists and, if so, where should producers send demos?
Modulate is always looking for new producers. We check our social networks daily to see if something new is in box! Email demos to info@modulate-recordings.com or go to our SoundCloud Dropbox.

Tell us about your next release featuring Aeph & Dabs / Maztek...
We've played these tunes at many gigs and they sound amazing. Maztek's Floating is a classic dancefloor killer and if you play it you'll never go wrong! When we listened to that dubstep drop in Aeph & Dabs' Madbox we knew we had to release it on vinyl.

Got any other releases in the pipeline you can tell us about?
Our next vinyl is a Flame tune with an ass kickin' remix from Subterra. We've loved so many of Flame's productions that we decided he deserved some wax! On the digital side you gotta watch out for our next Baesom EP as well as the Jazzatron LP... simply classy.

How are you finding the D&B scene in Italy at the moment?
I think if a musical genre survives for ten years it will have many ups and downs. Right now in Italy is not a good time, before there were more gigs and clubs were more open to different genres. Nowadays the situation is getting better slowly and there are many talented producers.

Anything else you want to tell us about?
DON'T ASK FOR VINYL IF YOU ONLY PLAY MP3S!
