 Mindstorm

To mark their 50th release, US label Mindstorm Records have put together a 21 track drum & bass and dubstep album featuring music from their artist roster spanning the past two years. We caught up with head honcho Matt Aiudi to find out what to expect....

How long have you been working on the album?

We've been planning this album for a few months now having had a couple of Future Music Session EPs out already and thinking that an LP would make a fitting choice for our 50th release. The Future Music Sessions EPs have always been a nice way for us to showcase new producers and their music alongside the owner of the label's most popular tracks at that moment. We've decided to open the doors to our discography as wide as possible this time and offer something from our artists, both old and new, for drum & bass and dubstep fans from all walks of life to enjoy.

Tell us about which type of sound you were trying to achieve?
The overall soundscape of the album is immense and stretches across virtually every sub-genre of drum & bass including minimal, jump-up, liquid, neurofunk, and darkstep to name a few. We've also added dubstep to the mix including both heavy and liquid tracks from producers Alex Mind and Lojik. The main idea behind making the album as versatile as possible comes from the fact that we love everything these two genres of music have to offer and we're very passionate about bringing that love to the fans of the label.

Tell us more about the tracks we can expect to hear?
Expect to hear at least one track on the album that will get you in the mood to dance, we've packed this album full of dance floor artillery. There's also tracks to sit back to and enjoy off the dance floor which we feel are just as important as the club bangers. We've done our best to balance the two together and create a "best of both worlds" vibe.

What is your target audience?
This album first and foremost is for our fans who have helped us get to this point and reach our 50th release. It's always been our goal to bring something for everyone with the label's sound and direction and to be able to deliver a neat package that displays our efforts as a whole means a lot to us. This album is also for the DJs that are looking to find a variety of tracks they may or may not have heard before and that are easily accessible for their mixes.

Do you have any details about upcoming live performances / releases etc?
As far as what the future brings we have a few more drum & bass and electro releases in the works from producers like LxA, Syntax, Mindstorm, and Heavy DubFX coming out before the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012. For those interested our entire discography can easily be accessed by visiting our website where we provide previews and purchase links for MSR001-050. We've also started the MSR podcast series this year, with the third podcast in the series available in December and the first two are available for download. It features past, present, and future MSR releases as well as exclusive tracks from producers outside of the MSR camp.
