Lenzman reviews his current favourite drum & bass tunes...
DJ Die & Interface feat. William Cartwright - Bright Lights (Lenzman Remix) - Clear Skyz
I've literally just finished this remix of Bright Lights. Really glad I got asked to remix this as the Rollers mix was a real favourite of mine. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome of this remix, but I have to say it was just fantastic to work with the vocals and samples of the original! It should be out on Clear Skyz in the not too distant future.
Total Science & S.P.Y feat. Kevin King - Past Lives - White
This tune is fresh! Great soulful vocals by Kevin King and a slightly off-the-wall riff. It's different to much that's out there at the moment, but at the same time it has Total Science & S.P.Y written all over it and all the elements work amazingly well. Will be playing this one for a while. I believe this tune is currently still unsigned, so all you labels out there – fix up!
Random Movement – All Wrong – White
Random Movement has been one of my favourite artist for a while now. He's one of the few artists that's bringing something organic to the scene these days – and fair play to the man. His début album is about to drop on Innerground, but he's certainly not resting on his laurels. He comes through big time on this one. With rolling, funked up beats and punchy, quirky but funky bass-line. It's all unmistakable Random Movement. It's also unmistakably good. Not sure of the label yet, but I'm sure it's going to get snapped up right quick.
S.P.Y & Kasra - Surface - Critical
It's a little bit minimal, it's a little bit nasty, it's a little bit funky, but it's all good! S.P.Y & Kasra come with something that gets it all right. It's a real favourite of mine and I can guarantee you will be hearing this in a lot of my future sets. Forthcoming on Kasra's quality Critical imprint.
Lenzman Feat. Riya - Bittersweet Part 2 - Shogun Ltd
This is a re-imagining of the original Bittersweet released on Shogun Ltd earlier this year. While the original was a bit of a nod to the old school, we tried to take the elements of the original and see if we could come up with something current to compliment it. Sort of like a remake from black and white to a colour, Dolby Surround 3D feature, if you will. The result is something we're all happy with. So were the good people at Shogun. Hence it will be released on Shogun Ltd before the end of the year!
