Black Reflections Records is a deep and atmospheric drum & bass label based in the Spanish capital of Madrid. They are set to drop their first release Highway 101/ I Will Be Where You Are in January featuring the talents of producer Furney. We caught up with them to find out what to expect.
It's pretty hard to find drum & bass labels and artists based in Spain. Can you tell us how did this project came up and what are your musical influences?
Yes, you’re right. So far, Spain hasn’t been a landmark for drum & bass. One goal of our project is to disclose to the public this style. We believe that one of the reasons there are not many fans is the lack of knowledge of this musical style. We are working to make it known. The idea is the result of a similar mindset regarding the exposure of new music within our personal concept of drum & bass. We tried to release what we think is quality music with soul on it.
The beginnings are always difficult, tell us as how the process of creating Black Reflections Records has been?
It's true that the process of creation has been complicated. Unfortunately, and although we feel that music is our life, all three have other jobs and can not devote as much time as we would like. We started this project from scratch, but our goal and the music we wanted to publish was clear, you also get to have friends who in one way or another are also part of the crew and help us every day to keep going. We begin the process of contacting artists and we finally got publishing works by well-known artists such as Paul SG, Blade, Soultec, Static, mSdoS, and recently the mighty Furney.
We know that soon going to launch your first 12", do you plan to continue with this format?
We'd love to, but everything depends on the support of the people. We love the vinyl format, but as everyone knows, the publication is a long and hard process, not only from an economic point of view but in time, dedication and so on. People generally don’t use to put this kind of things in value but our goal is to keep publishing regularly on vinyl.
Tell us more about the first release...
It's going to be out on January 16, 2012 and then digitally on February 6.The 12” is the result of something we had in mind for some time, and will be on the market in the coming months. For the first release we have one of the most representative artists within contemporary drum & bass - Furney. Make sure you get your copy quick as these will go real quick.
Furney - Highway 101 - [Out 16th January 2012] Black Reflections Records 12" Vinyl by Black Reflections Records
Could you tell us what’s your target audience?
We have no specific public who want to reach. We don’t believe that we should publish a certain type of music for people. In one way or another, the public is the one who chooses, so if we had to settle for something it’ll be for everybody who really likes and feel this sound.
Furney - I will be where you are - [Out 16th January 2012] Black Reflections Records 12" Vinyl by Black Reflections Records
Tell us about which type of sound you were trying to achieve?
Due to the musical influences received throughout our lives, we identify and try to maintain a line with sounds from 90s drum & bass, as well as all its evolution within its most atmospheric, jazzy & soul. We don’t want to close any style, after all the good music is always good music and we should not be pigeonholed. We just like to publish what we really feel.
Do you want to add anything else?
We thank a lot all the people who have followed us and supported us as well as the artists / producers and others who have contributed to the label. We intend to continue working and without the support of the people we would be unable to do so. Thank you very much everyone.
